Weller in the day was a master wordsmith using word playLater in the song the lyric is changed to ‘the public want what the public gets’ whic seems to me to be a reference to the kind of moronic crap like ‘love island‘ and of course ‘I’m a celeb’ which is put in front of, and consumed avidly by, large numbers of less discerning viewers, who enjoy vacuous trash like this and believe what is put in front of them by cynical bastards like Hancock who is simply exploiting their gullibility.
And they love it.
How else could you find people actually sympathising and supporting a liar and con-man who is responsible for a series of fatal mistakes in his professional career?
