Matthijs de Ligt

De Ligt at the finish line: Raiola is in Amsterdam, finalising the agreement between the clubs will not be a problem, now that Juve have defined all the details of the player's contract:
a €12m total : €7.5-8m fixed plus bonuses & a €150m release clause, rising each year. [CdS]

Medical tomorrow apparently.

What grotesque fee has Pizzaboy negotiated for itself - after all that was the key priority in any deal.

Qataris trying to take the moral high on buyout clause so as to be prevented from blocking a sale for a player wanting to exit is the footballing equivalent- if they were hotel workers their passports would be confiscated so they had no choice but to continue laboring for the owners

How much money did your club take from Qatar over the years?
How much money did your country take from Hitler?

But he's a boyhood utd fan, he was rag bound, he wanted to go to utd.

There are ways around that, particularly gentleman’s agreements- of course you need both parties to behave like gentlemen
And that has never worked when it is not enforceable. Remember the gentleman agreement for Seri from Nice ? They didn't allow it when Barça came knocking on the door.
Or when Arsenal tried to be smart with Liverpool to take Suarez away.

And seriously, do you think Barcelona would agree to a 150 Me release clause for de Ligt ? Even the son of de Jong's agent you signed as a condition of his transfer got a 100 M€ release clause to play in Barça B.

To be fair, Ronaldo's 100m release from Real Madrid was in fact not a clause but a gentlemen's agreement.
There are instances in which it works, but yeah a release clause is much safer.

I know about Cristiano Ronaldo but it is quite different. The guy had won everything with Real Madrid, was 33 and had a bad relationship with Perez at the end.

Even if he was still the best player of Real Madrid, the decision could be understandable if you consider his age ( you don't know when his inevitable decline will start), the fact he had already achieved his mission at Madrid and 100 M is still 100 M. Real Madrid was ok at this time to release him and could sell him for that money, hence the gentlemen agreement. If you had tried to buy CR7 three years earlier, Real Madrid would have told you to pay the release clause which was 1 billion. If de Ligt wanted a 1 billion gentlemen agreement clause with PSG and, only after he had fulfilled his mission during 10 years at the club, i guess they would be ok to sell him for 150 M too.

What matters at the end is he wanted to go to Juventus who made a tremendous work to seduce him. Good for Ajax, good for de Ligt, good for Juve.

This still going on...lol

I am slightly interested , as we need a CB.

Add-ons should be around €10m according to them.
If what Di Marzio says is true, I hope we're doing this push-pull stuff with Ajax because we're sure of our position, probably because we've already reached an agreement with the player. I'd hate to lose this signing just because we started nitpicking over the offer. Fair play to them if they succeed in buying him for less than €75m (+ add-ons) though.
