Matthijs de Ligt

So, you are claiming that if the red scouse sign De Ligt, they will never concede a league goal again and then you try to push back when being called silly. You are not silly mate, just outright stupid
He also failed to recognise that VK was the best CB in the league last year. When he played he proved it.

De Ligt would seem a great signing, based on age, experience and potential. As it stands, Stones and Laporte are our first choice present and, certainly, near future central defenders. I wouldn't like to sign a CB (Maguire) who is two years older than both of these and for a record fee for us. De Ligt, at 19, is a free hit squad number wise and would give us three top centre backs, injury permitting, for the next eight years. To me, Harwood-Bellis has a higher ceiling than Garcia even further down the line but, then again, I'm no Pep.

This is the short time thinking that nowadays is so typical for United, not us. I’d rather we signed De Ligt for his age and already proven leadership within Ajax. He is already better than Maguire in nearly every aspect. Most importantly he knows how to play Guardiola’s way as he has been at Ajax and was managed by Ten Hag this season who has been learning from Pep when he was at Bayern at the same time. Physically he is up for playing in the PL. We might not have the best CB straight away, nor will we have with Maguire. Mahrez the prime example. Maguire isn’t used to play a high line defence. De Ligt is. Maguire or De Ligt would for me be an easy choice. And yes I’m Dutch but hardly subjective when it comes to want the best suitable players at my club. DevLigt could’ve been from the Faroer for my likening. It’s simply age, leadership and the way both these players have been moulded in the way they have.

Buy De Light, we already have Garcia waiting in the wings. And with Laporte and Stones a perfect quartet to lead us through the next phase.

I think everyone would want someone with his potential.

The point is everything needs to be considered the fact he would be on more than Stones, Laporte and up there with Sterling, KDB, Aguero etc. He could well end up being the best paid defender in the world after this deal whilst not being the best in the world at present.

Yes, he looks like he has everything but it is certainly a risk paying the amount for your most important players for potential. I think that is far more short term.

There is also the home grown question as well. All things being equal I don’t think anyone on this thread would indicate Maguire over De Ligt. However, they are not.

De Ligt does not strike me as a City move due to the agency fee and wages. We step away from deals we consider to be too expensive, much to the annoyance of many on here.

I’m with you on the Mahrez similarities which has not been a success and Maguire certainly has that feel to it, more so then simply the Leicester connection.

This strikes me as an overpriced deal due to him wanting to Barca so having to outbid and also being the must have signing of the summer.

Hopefully Otamendi may give us another season now Kompany has gone, which would be great for us as really allow Garcia sometime to shine. There also seems to be talk of Fern dropping back to help as well, so it is possibly we may hold fire on a CB this summer (although risky if get transfer ban). If

Stupid is reading everything word by word and not understanding my point. Of course I'm not saying Liverpool will never concede a league goal again if they sign De Ligt, that should be obvious.

As long as we're clear on that...

Liverpool urgently need a back-up fullback and a creative midfielder. I highly doubt they will go for 70-80m De Ligt. I sure hope not, as they would never concede any goals in the league, ever again. Van Dijk is not a kid anymore but they would have a frightening defense for atleast five years.

Think his heart is set on Barca which is fair enough. The fee seems ok but like others have said, we cannot break our wage structure for this lad. If he comes here then he will have to work his ass off to earn the type of money a champion is on

Another one...
Read between the lines ;)
Which line am I supposed to be reading between there bud?

This one:-

'Of course I'm not saying Liverpool will never concede a league goal again if they sign De Ligt, that should be obvious.'

Or is it this one:-

I suspect that you actually have no idea what 'read between the lines' means.

So you are saying Liverpool is dumb enough to scupper a supposed 'generational talent' at CB just to get a backup RB? Come on now, that doesn't even make sense. Not to mention Gomez does a very good job at RB, so he can easily backup both roles if they got De Ligt. Also they have the Ox coming back, so they don't desperately need anything. Who ever they add, just like us, would be to improve their already quality squad.

Like us, they don't have any glaring weaknesses. They can add wherever they find exceptional talent.
Creativity in Midfield is a weakness for the Scousers, AOC will give them more drive but they no one like Bernardo or KDB at present

Is this common knowledge, don't remember reading he cost United £190M
I have copied a quote from another thread about Raiola. It reveals, as well as his huge Pogba fees, how he stitched up Chelsea with Lukaku, leading them to believe they were getting the player, then a last minute switch to United, meaning Chelsea were shafted.

With a transfer ban possible in the next 2 windows, it's vital we are covered for the future. I can better understand the club's reluctance to deal with Raiola. I just hope Liverpool don't get him.

But they would have a rock solid defense and reduce the number of goals conceded this season, no doubt. You're taking thing too literally.

Gomez would not bench Alexander-Arnold at RB and he would struggle for gametime if they were to sign De Ligt, as Van Dijk is given in their starting eleven.
They have a great squad, I agree, but they lack creativity in midfield so I think their priorities lie elsewhere. I hope so anyway.

"Deluded" and "you're wrong". Great reply, thanks...

I love Laporte but he is no Van Dijk, yet. I almost stopped reading at "Trent isn't better than Walker". He has amazing crosses, Walker can barely whip a cross. A-A is miles better going forward, has better ball control and better understanding of the game. Walker is great using his speed to catch up when we get countered, but the irony is that Walker is usually the one dropping the ball or misplacing a pass leading to us getting countered. Walker is our biggest weakness, which says everything about the quality in our team. I would rather have A-A as our RB.

Let's agree to disagree. Something tells me this won't be the last time.
Perhaps if you wrote your point rather than trying to be clever (you failed miserably btw), then you might not get pulled up

Can someone explain why they wouldn't like to sign De Ligt because Raiola is his agent but then say that they wouldn't like Liverpool to sign him. Are they trying to say that Raiola will behave if De Ligt goes to Dipperpool?

I think people are a bit wary of having another Seluk situation where he's stirring shit constantly but also recognise De Ligt's talent and know he'd improve Liverpool's already solid defence.

We already have one of Raiola's clients on our books, although he's nowhere near as sought after and there's less likely to be any drama as a result.

Agreed. Gomez will not bench TAA, hence why I said he could backup both at CB and RB. Thus, Liverpool buying De Ligt, will erase the need at backup RB.

As for creativity in midfield, I think it will be a luxury. They are not built for players who dally on the ball. It's more aggression and attack at pace. It's why they are better post losing Coutinho. There middle 3 is about energy be and athletism. They attack with pace up front and wing-play from the full backs.

While a creative mid will be a good 2nd option, it's not a priority. I really do think we are similar in that neither team has a must have priority. We did for a minute at DM with Dihno aging, but st a minimum Gundogan covers the position well and he's still in his prime.

For both teams it's about improvement on strengths. So quality will take priority over position.

Putting two and two together is not your strong side, is it?

Is it reasonable to expect De Ligt to stop those 32 goals by himself? Did Ajax play with a one-man backline all season? What do you think will happen when you add Van Dijk, Robertson and Alexander-Arnold to that back four? Liverpool already have the best centreback in the league, the same goes for the fullbacks.
The best CB in the league is shielded by 2/3 defensive mids,it's a myth he is the best in the league, our inferior defence let in 1 goal more

It may be me but there is a certain aroma about you
