I wonder if, with the benefit of hindsight, we wish we had paid the money for VVD? It seemed ridiculously high at the time, we saw in the Amazon documentary the club reaction to the transfer fee, but like with KDB's acquisition it was a shrewd bit of business. Both players are being linked for future Balon d'Or's.

Personally I think De Ligt is in a similar mould, we are likely to look back in the future, and wonder what if?

I’m sure any concluded deal will be higher than €70m (£67m).

Irrespective of where he ends up, I’d be surprised if Ajax receive less than €80m.

To me it seems there are a few clubs not willing to pay both the big fee and Raiolas cut (City, rags and so forth), Liverpool who don't really need him and so aren't going to drop 100m+ on this deal and then Barca who will go for it but they need to sell some players first but are struggling.

C'mon seriously, I can't stand the dippers, but Van Dijk overrated ? He's been the main reason why Liverpool were able to mount the title challenge they did. Without him we would've won the league by 20 points.

Yeah they do get all the attention from the media etc because they're Liverpool but Van Dijk has made their defence miles better and he is a world class player, in the 17/18 season they conceded 38 goals and this season that's dropped to 22 and much of that is down to Van Dijk

True,they also have a better keeper and klopp has changed the system so they are more secure,that's where the 2/3 defensive mids come in
