Manchester, New York, Melbourne, Yokohama... and now Shanghai.

Seweto, Porto and Montevideo to follow would be my guess.

Which club in Porto?

Montevideo? Surely we would go to Argentina or Brazil first?
Boavista

Possibly, only said Montevideo because Uruguay has an almost unrivaled level of footballing underachievement considering it's size, and with Montevideo containing nearly 50% of the population is far more concentrated in one area than Argentina or Brazil. Also, there are several different choices to choose from in Montevideo as there are 13 top flight teams based there. TBH we could just as easily move into Buenos Aires or Rio, but I am just guessing.

i would love us to get involved with a south american team but we would be getting involved in establised club territory so the politics could get messy if they don't like the abu dhabi/ european influence being put on their club.

Not sure I like football coverage here in China.

I'd been up late to watch the derby, local time is awful for it. Missed half the season, homesick a little, contracted for the next full season and then this guy who wears every club's kits pops on tele with a City shirt and a diseased hat. Truly awful, I'd protest, if it was legal here.

Manchester City are set to purchase a major stake in one of Shanghai three major clubs in the coming months according to @EAF_News

#MCFC will purchase a major stake in a Chinese Super League club, believed to be in Shanghai (Shenhua/SIPG) in the coming months.

UAE.....USA.....Austrailia.....Japan.....and China.....

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
Money, it's a gas
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I'll buy me a football team

Are we investing in these clubs to help Manchester City with the work permit issue.

For example, English clubs find it virtually impossible to buy a south American footballer as a kid because he's never played for their country.

We could never of got Messi as a kid which gives Spanish clubs a advantage.

But lets say NYCFC bought the next messi and once he played so many games for his country we then simply buy him for a minimal fee.

The way it looks to me is that The owners are buying clubs all around the world to get the best talent.

Great stuff and a bit of old pink Floyd too..love it.

I think one very dangerous thought that people on here are thinking is that this is all with the idea of making City unstoppable. Perhaps the plan isn't as oriented to funnel top players to City as it is just to create a world wide brand and City would just be one (major) cog in that plan. I doubt that if NYCFC is competing for the MLS title in a few years that they would gut the talent, send a needed player to Manchester on the cheap. I would guess there will be some transition of players, but it would probably be more along the lines of loans and development than trying to make a super-club. Though in 20 years when a great Chinese player comes up the ranks and is getting looks from the other major clubs in Europe, perhaps having the familiarity in the brand will give City a leg up when it comes to signing.

It is exciting to see such a global vision and I think that the rest of the football world should be very worried. But I wonder if there is going to be a tier system within the frame-work or if this is a rising tide lifts all boats type thing.

There are far, far easier ways of getting round the work permit rules.

Wow. Yeah I was waiting for that one. It seemed weird we got into Australia but not Japan or China.
Australia's a lot easier for foreign investor to do business in than China. And Japan have rules about majority ownership of football clubs, apparently.
