Why would they go mad ??ask anyone in their 50's what Salford was like & if they are honest they will tell you the rags didn't exist in any numbers before the 60's.
My dad still smiles when he talks about his youth & how he had very few mates that were rags in Salford.

My grandad always used to say Salford used to have more Bolton fans than the rags, thats why they fuckin hate the shit. Don't know how much truth there is it it but he also said when they won the cup they started their parade in salford.

After beating Utd in the 58 cup final, the Bolton bus came from Victoria train station. By the time it got 1/2 mile down Chapel Street, the coach had been pelted with tomatoes, eggs etc.

My dad & his cousin had their "Well Done Bolton" banner burnt by some older kids. Seems they were gracious losers 50 years ago too. :-)

Most of my family live in Eccles and they're all blues.
Get them to join the Eccles branch of the OSC ....numbers growing fast....lots from Salford!!!

I'm Salford born and bred.

All my Dads side are blue, my Mums side are mainly red.

My Grandad (Dads side) was brought up in moss side and moved to Salford in the 50's.

He hated United until his dying day. My Grandad, my Dad and my Uncle used to frequent their local in the late 60's, they were well outnumbered by the dark side. Win, lose or draw they'd turn up and face the music. When we won the league in 68 my clan tipped up at the pub to celebrate, the rag bastards had gone into hiding.

As we all know a few days later United won the European Cup, my Dad told my Grandad he was giving the pub a swerve, "not a chance" said my Grandad...."get your coat on".

They trudged to the end of their street with their heads held high, as they got near the pub it was strangely quiet, they thought it was empty.......they opened the doors to a huge ROAR, "ha ha"....."the blue noses are here"....."let the party begin".....

As they say, class is permanent.

St thomas of canterbury 1969 last yr of juniors,
match in the playground city v rags not a good idea
3 of us v bout 20 of them, kept it to nil nil for about 45secs,lol

love bein CITY in Salford

Mum and Dad met on the Kippax but moved to Salford when they married, I went to Light Oaks and Hope High in the 70's and was totally outnumberred though none of them went.

When they won 1st title for 26yrs? I was driving a taxi in the Salford area, faced the music and went out working that night wearing my City top. No hassle but lots of "we don't hate you really" comments, which was worse.

Hate them with a passion, can't help it.

Eldest Daughter now married to a rag, though don't think he's ever been! and due 1st granchild in August, let battle stations commence. Don't think her hubbies to fussed but his Dad will deffinately be pushing for the new baby to be a rag!

Happy Familys
