MCFC U-18's

I was a regular at the academy when it 1st opened but not been for awhile now.
Can't get any enthusiasm now like I did just hope some of these lads start getting more of a chance.

Seems to be going through a bit of a 'phase' at the moment. I regularly went to the Academy but post-match there was little on the website. We could wait days for highlights of MCWFC. It's got a little better with the women lately but the lads' teams seem to have little publicity other than searching. It would more than helpful if we got the odd reminder email when the EDS or the U18s were playing! When the Academy opened the crowd overflowed to the areas behind the goals but that seems to be off limits these days. There shouldn't be any reason whey both sides of the stadium are full. The quality of football from 'the kids' is good! Very watchable.

Do our academys play anything similar to what Peps philosophy is in football?I know in Barcelona ,all the youngsters tried to play similar to what their main team played under Pep and i think thats the way to go,so they would know the system better if they get graduated etc.
Exactly the same all the way down the age groups. Of course it can lead to more mistakes at the back but that's where they get their experience from.

The U18’s have been astonishing this season, difficult to single out a single player as so many of the squad have played superbly. Even the ones getting less game time and stepping in on the odd occasion, and are playing at the same level as those getting regular minutes. Gareth Taylor has worked well with this squad, I really hope they keep this up and don’t take their foot off the gas as the season progresses. The goals for column is just incredible. There does not seem to be a weak position in the team.

I hope all the young lads keep their feet on the ground and are patient, as each one has just as bright a future as the player next to them.

The lack of coverage about this team is not so bad for the club as it keeps the wolves from the door, but I can understand if the young players feel as if they are in the shadow, especially with this current teams outstanding form.

I would imagine that every single Premier League Club and many many from this country and all over Europe are aware of the players we have, just the same as we are aware of theirs. Scouts from everywhere attend Under 16 and Under 18 fixtures. Putting these games or the highlights online or TV would have no impact whatsoever on our ability to keep players.
The club is just lazy and don't care if theirs an interest or not.

To add this, many scouting apps, like Wyscout for example, have pretty extensive highlights of most youth games on. You can see all touches from a player in u18s games for example. I could sign up for it right now if I wanted to and go and watch extensive comps on each of our youth players. I don't think the motivation behind the lack of coverage is the idea that the club intend to keep our players secret at all.

The only people they would stop seeing the kids is the fans, but maybe that's what they want. Seeing the kids play, footage getting out there for YT compiliations etc. must mean more followers on social media and an increased level of fame and the things that go along with that - ego, corporate money, scrutiny etc.

Sancho had 200,000 instagram followers when he was 16. Foden was in a big Nike campaign building up to the Russia world cup he had no chance of going to at 17.

Do the club want that? I would imagine they'd like the players to be basically anonymous until they're promoted to the first team, like it would have been 15 years ago. That kind of following means financial clout in negotiations, it means fame at a young age, more opportunities to be lead astray.

That's the only justification I can think of to limit fans watching the academy teams.

Man City v Man Utd this Saturday 9th Nov 11:00am at the Academy Stadium. U-18 have 9 wins from 10!

City U-18 1-2 Rags U-18

City a better team when on the ball, same could be said for Utd though. A game of two halves. Utd defended in numbers whenever city attacked and got in a number of blocks.

Obviously a disappointing result today but the lads didn't play that badly. The first half very one sided with Utd not really getting into our area at all. The trouble was that we huffed and puffed but never really looked like scoring. Robertson hit the post when a ball came out to him outside the box but despite having loads of good situations we managed to mess up the final ball or have good attempts blocked with desperation lunges.

The 2nd half started with Utd showing more intent and the typical happened with their first attack and a cross found a free player who scored. It reverted back to City on top but Utd showing more energy off the ball to make it harder for us. That pushed us back a little and using the keeper more which is a problem as Bazuna is awful with his passing. It was one of his balls low down the middle which caused the problem as McAtee was under real pressure and lost the ball leaving Utd free to just come straight through the middle to score easily.

When Delap came on our chances improved as he really does look like a proper center forward and allowed Palmer to drop into his best position. It was Delap who closed a defender down to block a ball , run on and lob the keeper for 2.1. After that it was all one way traffic again , plenty of blocked shots and near things but 2.1 it ended.

Who is the brightest prospect among this bunch?

Every week its sounding like we have a good group, but that Delap kid is standing out. Only 16 too, maybe a striker for the EDS next season.

It's all about opinions but Bazuna stands out for the wrong reasons. Might be a decent shot stopper but not good at all with the ball. Delap definitely stands out especially given his age. Classic old fashioned center forward in some ways with aggression , touch and pace and you just have to like the determination he shows. Fingers crossed he is the real deal.
Egan-Riley always looks accomplished whether at center back , holding midfield or full back where he played today. Finley Burns is growing on me as a center back but still very early days.
I liked what I saw today of Mbete-Tabu but need to see much more. Cole Palmer oozes quality but does have a habit of taking a touch too many. Maybe needs to play with his head up more but I do enjoy watching him play.

As ever there are numerous quality players in our youth ranks but guaranteeing anyone will make it is a dangerous game. Still eligible to play at this level of course is Braaf and there be the name to watch.

How's the like of Fiorini doing? I keep telling the Scots up here that he'll turn their senior teams fortunes around single handed.

Is McAtee still looking likely?
