Media bias against City

My post was quite simple. It was quite specific and didn't require you to play devil's advocate or post some shite about how the media are highlighting their boring football. Did you hear a comment about their empty seats or the cost difference between the two squads? The correct answer was 'No'.

They're the club with one of the biggest global profiles yet nothing about the fans not turning up and not one article I've seen questioning the fact they've not released the attendance figure. If you can find such an article then feel free to highlight it and I'll apologise.

I never mentioned 'boring football' in response to your post so I have no idea why you have mentioned that.

I did highlight the Gmp stats were documented in the media, a trailer for a tv show ridiculing their support and the term 'prawn munchers' being a widely used term in the media to mock their fans unless you suggest this has never happened?

Didsbury Dave has saved me the trouble but I would be happy to add the articles about the GMP attendances in the mail and Guardian, which highlights they are not concealing uniteds attendances but highlighting the story.

So yes I will look forward to your apology, as my view that united get criticism for attendances has been vindicated.

Nice try but my question specifically related to Saturday's FA Cup game. The only two articles that refers directly to the game on Saturday (The Guardian & Soccersweep ones) only talk about fans leaving early, never mentioning the fact that there were loads of empty seats to start with. The other articles are either old or just talk about boring football.

I watched the first half of that game and there was no comment that I remember about empty seats or the cost of the squads. Yet how many times have there been comments when our home games are televised, particulalry CL ones, about loads of empty seats. It's often the first thing the match commentator mentions.

I'm talking about Saturday and only Saturday so stop deflecting.

So because Man United played one cup game without the ground being full, and the press never mentioned it, that shows media bias against City and for United?

Nope. Sorry, PB. You're a bright guy and you know full well that that is strong a case of Confirmation Bias as you can get. I've sat in many City games that weren't full and nobody in any media ever mentioned it. It's expected in domestic cup games and therefore not newsworthy. The only time that it tends to get highlighted at City is the big Champions League games where there is as much comment on it by City supporters on here as in the press.

But that's my final comment. You aren't sucking me into this daft thread. All clubs get "negative" press, and most fans think they are the only ones.

I think this was fair game as it originated with Roy Keane (who was captain at the time I think).

If the club captain has a go, then it's going to get repeated.

2 cup games . Forgetting Ipswich. Not sure the 20,000 short fall was mentioned. Not read all this thread so if it was ? Sorry.

Not saying we're the only ones as we clearly aren't. Just that there's a different standard applied to them, for reasons we all know.

Commerce drives content, therefore Man Utd get exposure and what exposure we get tends to be negative because that's what Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal fans want to read.

I think places like the Guardian would be better off being a bit more independent and improving the breadth of their coverage and quality rather than concentrating on one club

The tv/press will always promote United and Liverpool when ever reasonably possible as they need to sell subscriptions/paper

Anyone who doubts hat should look BTs coverage of United's 0-0 with Chelsea. Rooney motm and United were on the up. Anyone with eyes could see that it was a ludicrous but that was their line and they stuck to it
