Media doping actually exists, it's propaganda, but yeah its about time someone started calling time on these rag and LFC supporting pundits who get to add some direction to the steer of their club through the media. Multi-billion £ businesses involved here but the history clubs get to have media representatives!

If this was equal then City would be able to have pundits who berate LFC for spending quarter of a billion. Or start a media campaign against a particular LFC player. Or set the narrative for the 50/50 ref calls in favour of City. Maybe our pundits, being part of the studio team working on a particular game, could set the tone for the studio with regards to City (Because quite honestly the live program feels like they woman and woman about City up until they go on air, then they're trying to be fair throughout the show)

Media doping needs to stop

Driving home last night I had bbc radio commentary and both were saying how bad both teams were, Mark Lawrence said that neither side were able to string 3 passes together.
They weren't far off the mark having watched the second half.

its strange how normal un-normal behaviour can become when being displayed by a person who has some standing in the football industry/media. its almost like you sleepwalk into accepting biased opinion because its coming from someone you recognize.

if you flip the response of gary neville ("no, no, no, no, not a red card) after ederson (lets not even go down the "emerson" route, for now) was literally sythed in the face and neck by a flying liverpool boot, and say, for example richard dunne was commentating on a utd/liverpool game and that happened with the same response, would there be an outpouring of outrage? of course there would be, it would make the on-line and printed press. richard dunne wouldnt get another gig on that channel.

then compare to the comment after the kompany challenge on salah ("very lucky to stay on the pitch").

media doping comes in all forms, and all as pernicious as each other.

As a lifelong City fan, I have always found it irritating that the media is rammed with ex LFC and MU players. But the thing that has always bugged me even more is the air of entitlement fans of those clubs have had, along with Arsenal in particular. Nobody ever said football was about history, or fan base, or money. OK those three have all of that, but so too do we, and Chelsea, and maybe Spurs to some extent. But it is always the MU and LFC and Arsenal fans who moan and moan about the newcomers. I would hate it if we get like that in ten or twenty years time. I think the FFP thing has made our owners even more determined to sheik things up (see what I did there?) so continued success or at least to be there or thereabouts seems very likely. I just hope the culture of City being a family club made good continues for a while longer.

Absolutely. They set the tone for the conversations afterwards, even amongst City fans.... Sometimes I watch matches on a yank station, come here to BM or speak to someone else who watched it on sky and it's an entirely different narrative, different conversations, set by whoever was commentating.

Because of the money and reputation at stake I would say it should be set in stone that each and every game has a pundit from that team. It's scandalous Utd/LFC players commentate on ANYONE else and press home their clubs point of view. Some of these guys are even ambassadors for the clubs, Utd even warning their guys not to say negative stuff about their manager.

I thought I would compare Liverpool BBC coverage in after beating Bayern to Citys BBC coverage after beating PSG to get to the semi-final.

You can all go see the headlines LFC are getting right now.... "Back in the elite", "Mark of LFC progress", "Liverpool love this competition", "Reds march on"

Here you go, City the day after beating PSG - https://web.archive.org/web/20160413175443/http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football

We all know the difference we get to LFC or Utd but ffs it's so stark
Haha, top CIty headline, 'UEFA opens Man City disciplinary case'.

They've probably just left that article there since 2008!

It is sad seeing just how petty the BBC sports department is now. On the live feed on the website on Tuesday the headline score that was being updated was Juventus V's Athletico Madrid, Last night is was Bayern Munich V's Dippers. This is the first time I have seen a British Broadcaster reporting non-British clubs as a priority over games involving British clubs whilst playing games at the same level of a competition.
When you see at what level the BBC was once at and to see it now makes you sad that the power that be have lost all sense of their roots and priorities.
I reckon the bbc lost all sense of their priorities long ago...ignoring what we can only assume to be clear cut abuse by Js over 4 decades.
And he wasn,t alone....

i disagree. rule #1 in media - the more you make of a story or event, the more important that event becomes, and the opposite is true also.

the bbc (and other major media outlets) have the power to move the emphasis towards city if they so wish. they could easily have encouraging, eulogizing or positive words, graphics or descriptions of the play before the goals, upbeat information on the prospects for the team, show examples of how well they have played as a team, but also (especially) as individuals, just like they do with other lesser players from other teams. also they could be discussing/predicting/hypothesizing on the future role the team will play in the league, chumps league and european game in general, building up the excitement and anticipation. they could also be asking uncomfortable questions about why city staff struggle to make the team of the year or player of the year or manager of the year.

JUST LIKE THEY DO WITH OTHER TEAMS.

what the bbc do is they dont tell lies, this they are very careful about. they pervert the perspective to slant negative opinion towards the club. they DO do this, you can see it. a bbc number cruncher may say that city do not get the hits that other teams get, but that is because of their current reporting attitude of downgrading or belittling anything the club achieve or anything positive from the games or fans results in less interest for the information. they create the situation and then justify it as "thats how it is".

never would i believe a national broadcaster would ever behave in such a petty and detrimental way to a major sporting institution of Britain. there is an agenda and it makes my heart sad that they are depriving their readership (especially younger readers) of the excitement of our journey, due to the bbc's negative attitude many sports fans (at home and abroad) have chosen not come along for the ride. they have been tricked into hate rather than entertained.
Very well said.
