It’s a strange, poorly written article. I don’t really understand what point (if any) he is trying to make.
You can tell that the article has gone wrong when he has to delve into Greek mythology and explain Theseus’s Paradox in detail to make a point about change.

All he needed to say was "Trigger's broom", and everyone would immediately understand.

I've no doubt he wrote it, he has form for writing bollocks in the Guardian........

Now that I didn’t know. Cheers.
So, we can only assume, if Grimsby draw City in the cup, not only will he refuse to attend he will demand the team don’t attend either………

The Guardian has long lost its claim to report on news. Now it is little more than a blog promoting certain views pandering to followers who share similar views.

Methinks it is time to review the status of all the so called National Press and media including the BBC, including an open declaration of interests as online continues to kill off print.
When I was younger the Guardian was my daily paper of choice. At that time it felt more neutral and balanced than the others (plus the fact that Tuesday was Education jobs day ;-)) and I enjoyed doing the Quick Crossword as my evening wind down after work.
Nowadays I just do the crossword online and leave the rest!! How the mighty have fallen. Once the proud MANCHESTER GUARDIAN, now the slimy Guardian. JMHO

Now, now, it's been bad enough with all this 'Theseus's Ship' and 'Trigger's Broom' malarkey..don't be starting up any more philosophy.. next, you'll be on the 'Descartes/Cartesian Dualism' stuff.. and you'll have this lot here at Bluemoon on the likes of 'Occam's Razor' and 'Schrodinger's Cat' before you know it!

Mind, in the event of such an FA Cup draw between City and Grimsby it would be interesting to see if the crowd turned up to watch both teams being there but not there.. positive (Kantian?!) could be we might not have to pay for it.. and for once us singing 'We're not really here!' could be true..?!

Is that not all newspapers. They pander to their readership and have a set agenda

“We’re not really here, they’re not really here, is anybody really here”?

It's total bollocks. Essentially he is claiming that City have lost their moral compass because our owner is foreign. It's just racism really. Does he somehow think the club had some sort of moral superiority when we were run by that crook Peter Swales?
Like most of the twats published in the Guardian he thinks he has the right to tell us all what we think. If I was his father-in-law I would be pretty ashamed of what he has written. His references to his children "being claimed" as City fans because of his father-in-law comes across as a snide comment not a humorous one.

Ironic that the photo of the 1968 derby meant to illustrate the lack of connection between the old club and the present day features our current Club Ambassador sitting on his arse.

I'll help you.

He's trying to say Manchester City are owned by vulgar, brown-skinned people, who made their fortune from the carbon products that the Guardian and its readers hates. The fact that these vulgar brown-skinned people have actually done a rather good job of that ownership makes it worse, because they're supposed to be uncultured people who just throw money at things.

Rather than being owned by a white-skinned guy who made his money renting out TV's, making bog roll or selling over priced leisurewear. Or an American chancer, who doesn't risk putting in his own money but uses money from others and takes out dividends or consultancy fees. Neither do they enrich the community around their stadium.

And because we're owned by these vulgar, uncultured Arabs, we can't enjoy our successes as much, compared to if we were owned by a white Anglo-Saxon/Jewish businessman.

Hope that explains things.
