LACK OF CIVIC LEADERSHIP HAS ENABLED MANCHESTER AND NEWCASTLE SPORTSWASHING PROJECTS
A new report published today finds that political leaders in Manchester and Newcastle have not only declined multiple opportunities to use their positions of influence to express criticism of serious and systematic human rights abuses in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, but have effectively assisted these two deeply abusive and profoundly anti-democratic states’ efforts to set up ‘soft power enclaves’ in cities with proud histories of protest and dissent.

No please don't. Freddie Laker was a pioneer. He took on the big boys, British Airways etc that had all the good routes and were price fixing. They basically ganged together and did his legs. The rags would be British Airways, heavily in debt, owed by foreigners and hated by everyoneWhen I think of Man United I think of Laker Airways
This really is pathetic. If these so called journalists believe this than way do they just concentrate on two football clubs ?
Horse racing, cycling, F1 plus other sports have huge middle east support and following. Our government also has huge interest in middle east funding.
Yet its little old City and Newcastle that are the problem lolol.
The football press/media in this country are a fucking disgrace.if they truly believe in sportswashing than call out the other sports.
Call out arsenal for their stadium sponsor.
Call out the fa for the fa cup sponsor.
Call out the cycling teams sponsor.
Call out the government.
Call out all football clubs with middle east sponsors. They dont because those clubs are their pay masters.
Hard to deny, this is a classic example of sportswashing at work. It’s fair to say there would have been at least a couple of dozen people with strong opinions on human rights in the UAE otherwise. All that negative attention denied, absolutely no-one pays attention to Abu Dhabi now. Not even a word mentioned about it on social media. You haven't seen anything yet, even after years of reading this thread. Somebody has gone to a lot of trouble to produce this

I have never ever seen any article calling out the middle east investment in horseracing, not one jot, and yet it wouldn't exist without it. Are all of our detractors not aware of this? This really is pathetic. If these so called journalists believe this than way do they just concentrate on two football clubs ?
