Probably accounts for the poor standard of the tournament in general. The leading English PL players ie Foden, Saka, Rice, Walker, Trippier, are just shattered after an absurdly-long season made worse by meaningless international breaks. Those who haven't played much, like Mainoo, look fresher because they have played less matches. I accept that Akanji (also perhaps Ake) is the exception to the rule but Bernardo has also looked shattered for Portugal. The PL is much tougher than any othere leagues. City's first pre-season game is in three weeks time. This is just madness.
UEFA and Fifa love the dosh.Probably accounts for the poor standard of the tournament in general.
I said it a while ago this is the proof of too much football being played on the altar of wonga for UEFA and FIFA. Factor in the minimum 2 extra Champions League games and the Club World Cup plus an extended World Cup in 2026 and it will only get worse.
A poster replied we need to reduce the PL to 18 teams, UEFA would look at that and expand the CL to a minimum of 10 games to feather their lucrative nest, they're cuckoos living on the back of PL success.
I think Ake has had his minutes managed by Holland as he keeps being substituted on 65 minute mark. The leading English PL players ie Foden, Saka, Rice, Walker, Trippier, are just shattered after an absurdly-long season made worse by meaningless international breaks. Yes. He has been brillant for them just as he was for us last season. What signings he and Akanji have proven to be.I think Ake has had his minutes managed by Holland as he keeps being substituted on 65 minute mark.
I recall giving Akanji motm a couple of times just after he arrived. Got lots of shit off the football 'experts' on here. Been a quality signing from day one.Yes. He has been brillant for them just as he was for us last season. What signings he and Akanji have proven to be.
You don't have to hope. If Phil is dropped England will be going bye bye...I am almost hoping Phil gets dropped and england go crashing out
I agree and I thought Akanji looked great from day one. Spatial awareness on the field was the giveaway. He always seems to be in the right position to intercept or pass the ball. All the best players have this skill and it's a rare talent. I didn't agree with those who said Rodri took a season to get going either. He did lose the ball in a few games but he looked class from his first touch as far as I could see.I recall giving Akanji motm a couple of times just after he arrived. Yeah. Never looks in a hurry due to his reading of the game.I agree and I thought Akanji looked great from day one. Spatial awareness on the field was the giveaway. Really looking forward to his battle with kane, think he got bullied a couple of seasons ago but he's a better defender nowYeah. Never looks in a hurry due to his reading of the game.
Just saw that, I read it as a dig and expectation of city’s blue winning machine also coming to a halt.I’m trying to work out whether this is praise or a dig by the bbc politics …
