I recall a match or two being played on a mid-week afternoon. This was due to a work-to-rule by the coal miners (or the electrical union?) and the Government were trying to cut electricity consumption. Not related to to this really…… obviously you’re the same vintage as me. Do you remember we played Coventry City midweek with an afternoon kickoff? Something to do with power cuts? Trivial additional observation.. Coventry played in green and black stripes. Rough guess. 1975?
I remember that game ref the bomb and the brilliant ref was a guy I can`t remember his real name but he was nicknamed Mr Pickwick as he sported some very long and bushy sideburns. The crowd laughed like fuck as he picked the ball up and put it to his ear to see/hear if the bomb was inside the ball and ticking, A very funny moment. ;)I recall a match or two being played on a mid-week afternoon. I thought it was earlier than 1975 as I was at Manchester University from 1971-74 and wouldn’t have been able to get away to a football match on a midweek afternoon in 1975. It was certainly aimed a Conservative Government and they were defeated in February 1974.
I can’t remember who City played. I do recall a bomb scare during a match where everyone was asked to look under their seat for a bomb before play resumed!
Was on the Coventry match, think it was 4 2, lost my job at civil service for taking a sicky to go, hated job anyway. 17 then 68 now 51 years ago where didbthebtime go.Coventry League Cup replay was definitely an afternoon KO as I had to miss the game. The Plymouth semi-final was an evening match using a generator to power the floodlights, the generator was behind the North Stand.

Also went to Forrest during the 70s power cuts. All three ultimately grand days out with my dad and part of my City indoctrination.
