Media discussion - 2024/25

The media has always been about selling news or products (advertising). Huge swathes of the old newspaper industry have died due to being 20 years behind the times (pardon the pun) and broadcast news media is going the same way.

They are still of the misguided belief that the core of their market are red shirt fans. You need only look at the pundits to get see their thinking.

That isn't to say they aren't starting to recognise City because they are, but we are still very much the interlopers who are due a public downfall and they can't wait to write the inside story on that.

The sad truth is, even the headlines are downright misleading, and endless articles discussing the yesteryear achievements of United or 'greatest in PL history' analyses shows that journalism is morphing from into crowd pleasing and regurgitation.

At least in the old days, quality news was worth paying for. Nowadays, it can no longer compete with the immediacy of social media and has to lower itself to comic book status to try and survive.

I see Sky Sports Christmas Day coverage tonight is as follows:

Sky Sports Main Event
7-10- Darts
10-1 - Class of 92

Sky Sports Premier League
7-9 - Busby (when did he manage/play in the Premier League?!)
9-10 - Overlap
10-1 - Class of 92 (again!)

Sky Sports Football
7-9 - Busby
9-10.30 - Dennis Law documentary
10.30 -11.30 - Overlap

Absolutely ridiculous the amount of coverage United and their story gets from Sky!
Now that’s a bloody good reason right there to cancel Sky

Morning all.
Now the club is becoming a dictatorship towards the players...
Are we there yet or are people still getting angry.
'Clear and obvious'
Stop reading the media.....

Spot on!

I remember in 1970 coming home on the bus from school after footy training at Nell Lane, seeing Ian Mellor and Willie Donachie on the 102 on their way to Maine Road where we were playing Academica Coimbra in the Cup Winners' Cup quarter, final 2nd leg.

And when I was younger still, I was on a bus with my Dad once when he pointed out Bobby Johnstone to me. To be fair, it was in the Summer and Bobby was probably on his way into town to do a drop of shopping or similar, so there was no actual game on..

Either way, if it's good enough for Bobby Johnstone, Ian Mellor and Willie Donachie, it's good enough for the likes of De Bruyne, Haaland, Stones and so on.. as the French say, 'les tosseurs choyes' ('pampered Wayne Kerrs')!!
