Silkman is one of my most disliked players ever to pull on the hallowed shirt. In March 1979, when I was just coming up to ten years old, we sold Brian Kidd and brought in Silkman. Kidd had been a great striker for us and was one of my favourites, so I was gutted to see him go. As his replacement, in effect, Silkman was already facing an uphill battle to win my affections, and he never succeeded. Quite the opposite.

Obviously, I didn't do away games back then, so the wonder goal at Ipswich passed me by and I didn't even have that one bright spot to remember him by. He just seemed generally dreadful, but it wasn't only that. Despite playing, at least when he first arrived, in a team full of stars, he seemed to regard himself as the main attraction, a seventies maverick and crowd-pleaser in the mould of Rodney Marsh, Stan Bowles and others who could showboat while the rest of the team put in the effort around them.

But Marsh, Bowles and the several other iconic flair players in the First Division in the seventies could pull that off (though I know Rodney divided opinions among City fans). Of course, Silkman wasn't fit to lace their boots. He simply wasn't up to scratch in a top-flight outfit it was the sheer lack of self-awareness that got to me. But it also made me doubt the recently returned Malcolm Allison.

I was just too young to remember Big Mal from his first spell at the club and wondered what other damage he might go on and do if he really thought Silkman a player deserving of a spot in a team with Corrigan, Donachie, Watson, Hartford, Owen, Barnes and the rest. Regrettably, I was right. Malcolm did rather a lot of damage.
Yep, took us over 20 years to recover.

Silkman would be in my top ten worst players ever to turn out for City. But he did score one of the best goals I have seen from any City player away at Ipswich in the 79/80 season. A chip from near the half way line.
I do recall he had a strange sort of charisma though. Something I can’t quite put my finger on.

Was listening to a bit of talksport this morning the white and Jordan show, got round to talking about guess who the rags, anyhow white mentioned some crap about project 21,brailsford’s idea about building up and preparing for the 21st title win,Jordan calls brailsford a bluffer but ratcliffe is a good businessman, switched it off after that but I’ll agree with Jordan’s first point he’s a bluffer all right..

Don't know where else to put this. Just to say " Come on Newcastle" which ever of the media darlings they face. Not won a domestic trophy in my life time. A similar but worse situation than us in 2011, their fans brilliant at Wembley in 76 ,come on the Mags.

BBC 'Verify' have sixty staff in their employ - probably one of the biggest waste of public money going.

Don't get me started with the twats that work for the council (Stockport in my case) bunch of fucking mogadons in my experience
I wrote to my local councillors (Stockport) back in early December asking a relatively simple question which was how much do the council pay in pension contributions. Bear in mind they want to charge for removal of garden waste. I exchanged emails and on all three occasions he spelt my name incorrectly despite me pointing it out to him and also highlighting it for him. Two months I still don’t have an answer so it’s not just council workers but the councillors themselves.

From local councils all the way up to top levels of government, lazy uneducated morons with questionable social skills and zero compassion.

Not my wife but the BBC is full of people who can't do the job, it's essentially public sector-it's awash with wasters stealing a living. Have you have dealt with a single person at the council/civil service that you remotely felt were able to do a good job?

I've been working for over 45 years, with over 40 of those in the private sector and 4 in the public sector. I met plenty of morons in the private sector, who were only interested in feathering their own nests, or building their little empires. In the public sector on the other hand, pretty well everyone I worked with was hardworking, intelligent and committed to help those they were tasked with helping, some of whom were among the most vulnerable in society.

The irony and nerve of a professional gambler, calling out public servants.

From a recent paper report

Stockport council will move ahead with plans for a £59 charge for garden waste collection despite massive backlash from residents.

Deputy leader Mark Roberts said at a town hall meeting last night that “difficult decisions” have to be made to balance the books as the council looks to save £25m this year.

The plan would see households opt in to pay £59 a year to continue weekly garden waste collections in their green bins, discounted to £39 for residents who receive council tax support.

Food-only weekly green bin collections will remain free under the plans, but blue bin collections for paper, cardboard and cartons could be made every four weeks rather than fortnightly as they are now.

The council said households who feel they need a larger blue bin can pay £15 for an upgrade.

Residents not wanting to pay the garden waste charge can buy a compost bin for £10 to £20 depending on the size to remove their garden waste that way instead.

Around 97,000 homes in the borough have a green bin and council chiefs think more than 40 percent of these will sign up to pay for the garden waste charge.

If you've got garden waste, Compost the bloody thing! Shouldn't need the Council to take it away.

When I lived in Lincoln it was 39.00 a year, and 15.00 for an additional bin if required. There was always a charge as long as I lived there (over 10 years).

Only used it for big stuff and excess grass clippings as we composted a lot of stuff.

That was a fantastic day out. Even the drive down (my dad driving not me) was great, meeting the geordies at the services.

Spot on Colin. You won’t know this but I’ve actually spoken to you in a work context and been in the same office as you at the same time. Good to know you’re still fighting the cause ;).
