Seem to be direct quotes from Kieran Maguire though.
its quotes from keiran maguire on a podcast, its funny how they wheel out their pet 'football finance expert' everytime they want a nice little soundbite, why does it always have to be him, is he only the game in time i very much doubt it, so i assume most of his media work comes from him saying things they can use.

Maguire's not a bad commentator IMO but, like some (note emphasis) academics, he doesn't seem to have a great deal of real-world experience to fall back on. Moreover, he's not and doesn't claim to be a lawyer. What he is, however, is a reasonably skilled self-publicist, able to have his views generally accorded a much greater level of respect than they in fact merit.

He does, to be fair, seem to me to try to be balanced. On the podcast where the widely quoted comments came from about hefty sanctions should the PL prove conduct amounting to fraud, he also stressed that the PL would likely find it hard to prove the case against City. However, while both propositions are true, there's only one part of that been reported and no prizes for guessing which. In the current, clickbait era, it's sensationalism that rules.

True enough but I'm guessing he didn't add the rider "this is presuming that they are in fact guilty of anything"?

100% correct, its just infuriating that the same old suspects are rolled out time and again to trot out the same old tired clickbait nonsense when there must be more people out there who are qualified to give their possible opposing opinions.

Probably selectively mis-quoted, out of context. It's what they do. I'd refuse to do interviews with the scheming bastards, knowing they'll just twist my words. Kieron Maguire is generally pretty neutral from everything I've seen.
Yeah, I always find Maguire to be pretty reasonable and fair and it looks like his words have been sensationalised here. He was asked about the prospective penalty if we were found guilty. He isn't saying he thinks this is what will happen.

That is a narrative in itself that will soon come along if the media start to get wind of a favorable ruling towards City. It won't be that we have been cleared, it will be that the PL couldn't prove it. Bit like with CAS and the whole time barring stuff, say it enough times regardless of its true meaning and that will be the narrative.

I agree he's not bad. I would say he's publicly non-committal, but I also think he knows what he's doing, e.g. in this appearance he gave the platform the soundbite you suspect he knew they wanted. They know the conditional won't get a look-in in the pile-on. He and a few others have made an industry out of City's plight. It's not in their interest to countenance City will be vindicated. What will they do when all this is over?!

Only this. And he has to visible because he is trying to develop a profile he can monetise in the world of football finance. Which is one of the reasons I don't listen too much to what he says. He has to say things that will generate noise.

Same goes for anyone else trying to develop a media presence. I would much rather listen to people on here who are qualified and can give a professional viewpoint without any other incentive. You know who you are.

They will all fuck off back to obscurity hopefully. Then we can enjoy the football again, if we can afford it ....

Prestwich Blue was saying David Conn hadn't written anything about City for a few years after City had had a few words with some of the media behind the scenes. I wonder if he's been writing a book for publication to coincide with the culmination of the case. I have a feeling it's still got some legs in it yet. Hopefully, if the Tribunals rule in favour of City, stronger action will be taken against those people than has happened up till now.
