Come on, is anyone really surprised about the media w@nkfest over Liverpool winning only their 2nd PL title in 32 years? We knew what to expect. The trophy presentation and parade w@nkfest is still to come.

35 years ago, when the likes of @tolmie's hairdoo were starting out, 35,000 people inside the ground saw the game and a few million saw MOTD. The journalists were there to document and report on it for the other 6 billion people in the world who might be fans but couldn't see the match. These days, every game is streamed with 30 cameras in 4k. Every incident is on social media before a journalist can type a tweet about it. No one needs a factual account of the game, because anyone can look up the game whenever they want.

Similarly, journalists used to be the key source of information behind the scenes, now players, agents and clubs will leak or release loads of that information because they can send it to any journalist in the world with a social media following (that's basically Fabrizio Romano's entire career, he built a huge audience and now anyone who wants to leak something goes to him because it'll reach the most people). So we don't really rely on journalists to uncover stories around a club any more.

Lastly, players used to be mysterious blank slates and your only chance at an insight into their character or personality would be a sit down interview, now most of them are on social media and release that info themselves willingly, and in a smartphone world, anything they do that might be interesting is photographed and recorded and put online by someone. Then there's all the club generated behind-the-scenes content produced to generate views and PR.

So the only thing left to write and sell as a journalist is in-depth technical analysis (turns most fans off and doesn't drive big readership), and opinion pieces. Opinions have to be pretty bold to cut through the chatter of 20 other op-eds in major papers, so it drives people to exaggerate and ham everything up or seek out contrarian positions to get noticed.
Exactly . I'd love some long form and non partisan journalism about football finance and ownership ( past and present ) , changes in fan demographics , injury patterns , ticket access and pricing , different models of young player development , what's it like living cheek by jowl to a football club , history , stadium development , transport for fans , costs for match going supporters , the impact of wall to wall live coverage .....I know none of this is immediate or mainstream but there's so much to learn about the wider stuff around football that most intelligent journalists could provide, if only , if only .... The current coverage is generally juvenile for the reasons you outline so unfortunately it's not the current direction of travel for the mainstream press . I'm usually mining You Tube and certain podcasts for this stuff .

Hate to say it but Slot made the PL seem very easy.
Strange thing to say as a non-scouser. There is one reason why they won it, we played shit, didn't show up and they won by default. Slot simply stepped in from Klopp and was very clever by not messing about with the set-up just because he was new (he deserves credit for that yes). The gooners are just the sideshow every year and were never going to challenge them. Liverpool haven't been amazing, let's not give them any more credit than they deserve.

Oh Oliver you're an absolute charlatan with your bullshit musings, the self pity city by the mersey has won two titles in 34 years, that doesn't constitute an earthquake by the tectonic plates it's not even an outsode shithouse door banging in the wind, i'll tell what is 10 on the richter scale though Oliver you scruffy **** a certain club from Bexwick M11 winning it 8 times in 12 years

Oh dear! “The tectonic plates of sport have shifted!”??? LAUGHABLE!!!

It’s like bringing up ancient history every time something happens that tangentially references it! Even mentioning Pisscan is a joke!! Both clubs are living off ancient history, but then that’s all they’ve had for a generation or more!

I suppose they’ll hang their hat on 20, seeing as it equals United (and their song), but seriously?!

The “modern football world” in this country started with the Premier League and almost every top football reference is based on that fact. I guess 2 in 25 doesn’t sound good enough for a wankfest, so…

Slot did a very good job corralling the talent at his disposal, and they were fortunate that City’s very fast start fell off a cliff and Arsenal quickly became pretenders to the throne again, so the timing was fortuitous for him, but Slot took full advantage and rode his luck a time or two.

No detracting from their title win, as you can only beat the team(s) in front of you, which they did better than everyone else. That’s what it takes to win!

However, unless I have selective memory loss, I don’t remember anything close being written when we did the Treble, or when we broke the mould and won 4 PL Titles on the trot! But, then, “oil money” and “unlimited deep pockets” and “cheated” were all attached to our success, as if Mansour was deciding games with his cheque book and we didn’t have to comply with any of the rules that others did!!!
UFB!

Let’s get the fucking parade and red flares over and be glad as fuck we don’t have to do a Guard of Honour for them again, because I’m not sure Bernie would get away with it twice! ;-)

Insufferable twats…and that’s just the journalists, before you even mention a few of their players!

Ha, yes!

When in reality it’s nowhere near the 750,000 that they always quote.

Liverpool’s population is roughly 500,000. Merseyside population is 1.5mill.

Minus Everton fans, Tranmere fans, and people who have no interest in football or turning out for the parade.

That’s a lot of Norwegians and Irish flying into Liverpool for the parade.
