Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

Postedd by raheem last night

Though most are supportive, some of the replies show the media have done their job in tarnishing the lad.

Also none of this positove stuff gets a mention

You lot are crying over nothing, Raheem can take anything that's thrown at him, in fact I think he thrives on all the bitterness that comes his way, Raheem says he doesn't read it, I think a lot of you should follow suit.

Let’s hope so but I’m not so sure.

He might not read it but he must hear the boos & im certain he felt the kicks & punches from the knob who attacked him for being Raheem.

nah the booing won't affect Raheem mate, as for that scrotum that kicked him, he had a criminal history as long as your arm, there's twats like that up n down the country, at least City have upped there player security now, like Raheem has said; don't worry bout me I can look after myself, he's a tough lad.

We do not need to condone but we have to accept that Sterling will always be the subject of a tabloid media-driven campaign to denigrate any of his achievements and invent narratives to undermine his character. This, as we know, has emerged for two key reasons:
1. Sterling left Liverpool to join City. The partisan Liverpool fans in the media simply cannot cope with this and and motivated by a bilious anxiety about it
2. There are a minority of tabloid sub-editors who operate in such a bubble that they no longer attempt to veil the racist overtones that prompt their criticism of a a young, black person enjoying the rewards of his talent and work ethic

The treatment of Sterling will never change as the two points above will always remain. It sickens me. But the best antidote is to acknowledge that it doesn't not appear to impact on Sterling. He is made of sterner stuff.

When Jermain Defoe got involved with that lad at Sunderland he wasn't given this kind of s**t.
Much more high profile player. Some of the posts on there are ridiculous but you can see they’re from sad little keyboard warriors, uneducated in what the entire point of the post is that Sterling put out. Sad really and fuelled by bitterness and jealousy.

Plenty of lovely responses too.

Well played Sterling.
