You could have at least put the whole of the transcript on to give it a more balanced view and one that suggests Lawro thinks we can win.The part about Liverpool "getting" at us wasn`t incorrect either as we were dog shit for that first 20 minutes.
Watford's excellent start to the season continued last week with their win at Southampton.

I still think City will be confident that their attack is good enough to get them the three points here again, though. Again, we saw how good they are against Liverpool.

Whoever Pep Guardiola picks, it does not look like scoring goals is going to be an issue for them this season and I don't see it being a problem on Saturday.

Your average football fan will believe whatever they get told if its what they want to hear; they arnt going to check if its true or not.

Sky especially try shape events how they want (See the Ederson incident) and with a huge market share they get to tell everyone how things "really" are with non-stop commentary to back them up; suddenly a scrappy rag win was a dominant victory playing fantastic football while we looked nervy beating someone 2-0 etc... Most people didnt see the game so that is just a fact to them now (see MOTD making games seem even when we have hammered sides).

Over time media reshape real events and misinformed fans spread this as fact until proven otherwise.

You can cherry pick anything to create a narrative if you look hard enough and are hypocritical enough to only apply it to certain clubs or players.

In fact we have conceded just seven goals in our last 12 league matches. It's an incredibly low figure for such an attacking side. The worst thing about pundits is they are incapable of basic research. If we keep our current ratio up for a whole season we will end up with a deficit of about 21 goals..one of the lowest in our entire history!

I agree that the UK media perception is largely negative but I think there is a big difference in European/US perception.

The players perception is telling. Players when talking about moving to the PL will reference us as a major power. We are to them a Super Club. Players want to join. Players when they get here rarely leave unless we want them too. Pep as manager. The facilities. The quality of the squad. The professional manner in which we operate. There is a purpose and vision which is attractive. Yes the UK media is infested with Liverpool and ManU fans but that is the UK. Results and performances like we had on Wednesday will make much more impact in Europe than some journo over here bemoaning why you can't stud players in the face anymore and how Liverpool were winning hands down until the sending off (despite being 1-0 down at the time).

The US has some of the UK issues but against that we have NYCFC playing in City blue. You have 1 minute City news-bursts on radio. We are investing in 5 a side youth competitions across the US which are all City badged. All this lodges into people's heads especially the younger ones.

We also do very well with South American players and this raises our profile there and now that we have clubs in SA our profile can only grow and strengthen.

City are playing a deep long game and whilst some no mark on Sky Sports making a dick comment about us is annoying in the great scheme of things I don't think it matters.

Yeah I agree.

On paper we ought to be discussed more. The fact is we're a team that's got Pep Guardiola as manager; one of the most talented array of attacking players in Europe; we play some of the best football and obviously the fact we've spent a lot to get there says we want to be noticed.

I think outside the UK there isn't too much to gain by being favourable to a specific English side (unless you're in Norway or something where everyone's a Liverpool fan). There's no major demographic that support them like they do over here. So naturally the attention turns to the most interesting teams, mainly including us. Obviously there is still more interest in those clubs ahead of ours overseas, but not to the extent where quite the sycophancy we see here is required.


Things might change in the UK but it'll take 20 years of continued success to do it. Chelsea have been doing it for almost 15 years now since the takeover and even still they don't get the easiest ride of it, certainly compared to United or Liverpool.
