He is at pains to point out that he only wrote the words, this after accusing a blue who pointed out the nature of the tackle of being "hyper sensitive" an accusation a red further down decided to copy and paste, I assume they struggle with words over 8 letters long. This is a reasonable example imo as there are a plethora of pics or stills that could have been used, I'm torn but I think I might have had to pick an image or still of one of the biddy fiddlers finer efforts but yes, to pick a photo of aguero post scythe is ridiculous.

It's quite an insight into his professional standards in that he also says he "doesn't care" that somebody (without his approval) chose to use a picture that completely undermines the credibility of his article.

Yes the choice of picture was ridiculous. He could have chosen a 'better' choice of pic such as Sane when he was accused of simulation but the laziness of the reporting led to a lack of research of what picture to add.

To be fair, Wilson is an okayish journo normally and he's not exactly a United fan or City basher or anything (and he probably quite admires Pep, still). It's just that his opinion on Walker, i.e. that whole Guardian piece was shockingly absurd and shit in my opinion.
Jonathan Wilson is a Sunderland fan and normally one of the better journalists. But I met him at an event a couple of years ago and we got talking about Pellegrini.

He'd been giving MP a load of shit because he gave nothing away to journalists. My response was on the lines of maybe he does that because he knows anything substantive that he does say will be twisted. I put it to Wilson that why should he show you any respect when he gets none back. Wilson responded that he got no respect because he showed none to journalists. It got a bit heated in the end but there was an element of entitlement from him that managers should be open with him and his colleagues and that MP's attitude was disrespectful.

This is the sort of thing we need to clamp down on.
I don't know Miguel Delaney but we have a couple of mutual friends (both of whom are Blues) and I've never had an issue with anything he's written that I recall.

I would point out that he's not responsible for the picture in the same way that journalists don't write the headlines or taglines. That would have been a sub-editor or someone else at The Independent. That does not excuse the use of that picture however.

He might not be 'responsible' but apparently he also doesn't care that the picture used doesn't reflect the content of the article. That's the bit I don't understand, it's still his name on the piece and somebody's undermining it but he's not bothered.

Yeah that was me who pointed it out to him, even tweeted him the original article where they referred to it as a 'knee high challenge', couldn't be arsed going into it with him as he said he didn't care because he didn't choose it. I know i'd care if it was something I'd written, I think whoever chose that picture knew what they were doing.

That is the bit I do not understand. I would have had no issues with him using a City player such as the Sane incident against Boro as I have seen similar pics of Rashford/Alli etc.

What bothers me is instead of saying 'sorry my sub-editor was not aware of the significance of the pic or yes we should have used a more suitable picture' his reported attitude is 'I do not care'. It speaks volumes for his and the papers professionalism if he did say that.

When the police get a "result" ie a conviction they often don't care if the "guilty" person is the correct one. Journalists are similar. If they can write a story which will be read and also please the editors, they will write it. A hint of truth is quite enough.

Generally the journalists will have a bias, but it is the editors who set out the rules and the owners who have the agenda. They naturally employ people who will not disagree with the agenda.

I find it difficult to understand why people do not know this is how the media works.

Images should compliment the article, I'd be fucking livid if I'd written that piece and had that picture attached, ok Joe public will have little idea of the significance of the picture but a professional journo should be making waves.
