I've just read the article in the Guardian, and two things occured to me. Firstly the author admits he follows Man Utd, and secondly (I could be wrong here, but I'm guessing from his name, Nick Cohen) the author is also of the Jewish religion. If so, to expect a balanced article from this gentleman on an Arab person owning Manchester City is a bit remote.
Whilst i am in no way an expert on the geo-political issues of this region, the overriding feeling i have all the time when the gulf state regions are in the news is one of hypocrisy. No western government or corporation seems to have any great inclination to effect any change in the area as long as the establishment there is made welcome on any occasion (ruling elite always welcomes ruling elite) and as long as there are billions of dollars/pounds to be made in defence, finance, petro-chem, infrastructure, architectural and engineering trades then the sour truth is the situation will continue as is.
Perhaps the Sheik's family owning CFG, and the heightened world-wide publicity and awareness that comes with that, can give the Gulf State leaders some momentum in improving the way their lands are governed? After all, everybody is saying the Sheikh only bought us to enhance the image of AD and the region, so perhaps a positive will come of this? Someone should try reporting on that.
