Have to say the first match back for Colin Bell was something special.
A rumour went round at half time and when he appeared after a long fight against his injury, the reception was marvellous, fans applauding for ages in something l will never forget.
No media build up, just fans and their hero, something that Liverpool and VD could never aspire to, no matter how many articles and hype they produce.

Takes a lot to bring a tear to my eye , but i was a mess that day , even the Geordies were applauding (until the 4th goals went in :) you cannot compare Bell with VVD , Colin was virtually a one club man and didnt exactly join us for glory we were a 2nd division club , VVD signed for the Dippers for totally different reasons £200k a week and belonging to a cult.

Dead right. You could see the excitement go round the ground as a people passed the word on like some sort of Mexican wave.
It wasn't far from the tunnel where Buchan crocked him.

I'll let you into a little secret....we was never his boyhood club, never in a million years.

I grew up with Trevor on the same estate and I can categorically say he was never a city fan, not a chance. He was one of those kids who liked whoever was at the top of the league and when me and @ancoats went to watch City with the usual crowd from Whitefield Trevor was never one of them.

I laugh my tits off whenever I read boyhood blue.

yep lee defo not a city fan. he was a big fan of john barnes at liverpool and had the liverpool kit
but i will say from a early age trevor was involved in football at oldham and other clubs so never a fan of city like us lee and our little crew we had at the time

Don't listen to the guardian podcast. Apparently our injury situation wasn't that bad, the board are scared shitless of criticising Pep because of his failure to come down like a ton of bricks on Aguero, instead of quite rightly defending him. We are also most likely going to finish outside the top four because we haven't any world class players apart from Kev, and our new signings aren't very good.
who said that ?.The Guardian podcast or you. :-)

Don't forget, he was also out for over 2 YEARS, not 2 weeks. I don't think anyone there that day didn't use their hankie at some stage. I know I did.

Get well soon, Colin.

There was a series on the early news on BBC which had showed how much he had put into it- it really was a fight for fitness.
Fingers crossed that he can fight his current problems.

gave up years ago but anyone doubting the agenda from the guardian in its written or podcasts has a serious case of “headinthesand”

Just wait till his first game back. 3 weeks leading up to it, wall to wall media with videos of his recovery, current and ex players talking about him, managers being asked in press conferences.

Then the game.

Dimmed lights as he comes out of the tunnel, guard of honor and if there are fans, a standing ovation.
... and finally, over the tannoy, a blessing from the Pope
