Our bad start to the season makes what's hapening now feel even better.
Back then, after we lost from Spurs, or after our draw with WBA, they were writing us off and were thinking that the wheels were finally coming off, that Pep was tired or found out, that we were going to rebuild for years before finding the next Kompany, the next Fernandinho, the next David Silva, the next Aguero... They were predicting a comfortable Liverpool win or even better: Liverpool vs United for the title. Few were saying we are state owned or have a lot of money. Few, if any, fans of Liverpool or of United would have been happy to swap their squad with our squad. United fans were thinking that De Gea, AWB, Maguire, Shaw, McTominay, Fernandes, Rashford, Pogba, Cavani, etc. were better than our players. Not to mention Liverpool fans who were convinced they had the best players in almost every position.
Then, suddenly, City completely outplay Chelsea, then do the same with United, Liverpool, Spurs.... 20+ wins in a row. Badly taken by surprise, almost shell-shocked by that, the media and opposition fans are reverting to type saying we have had by far the best squad from the start and our winning run has been sort of expected. It pains them to admit that our club bosses are top businessmen, that our manager is fantastic, that our players are actually much better than they were thinking. It may be dawning to some of them that, shock horror, Pep may not be inferior to Ferguson or Klopp.
