I’m pretty sure the year would be 1415, and the English archers would have been putting two fingers up to the French.

What’s he that wishes so?
My cousin Westmoreland? No, my fair cousin:
If we are mark’d to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God’s will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires:
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England:
God’s peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more, methinks, would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made
And crowns for convoy put into his purse:
We would not die in that man’s company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is called the feast of Crispian:
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when the day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say ‘To-morrow is Saint Crispian:’
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars.
And say ‘These wounds I had on Crispin’s day.’
Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot,
But he’ll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day: then shall our names.
Familiar in his mouth as household words
Harry the king, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly remember’d.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne’er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember’d;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.
English Archers ? Ahem cough splutter

Technically he was invited in by the protestants as they didn't want a catholic king (James II), but yes, you could argue it was the last successful conquest of mainland Britain. A couple of little corporal's tried in later years, but never got anywhere! :-)
Not only a Catholic King but not a very competent one.

In 1990, I took a coach party to Belgium to watch a re-enactment of Waterloo (175th anniversary). Before it kicked off, There was long delay while the Frenchies were trying get the promoters to change the ending to a truce settlement rather than a English/Prussian win.
England 4 - France 1
Crecy 1346 Hastings 1066
Poitiers 1356
Agincourt 1415
Waterloo 1815
Trafalgar ?

He's not only deluded - he's rude shouting over other people. I notice the BBC Sport website is more like a copy of the Red Issue this week with Simon Stone churning out a high volume of his Yoonited Fanzine twaddle... quite how the BBC justify this clown on the payroll is beyond me... still it means that there's more focus on United than the other 19 PL clubs combined - so objective achieved.

Luke Shaw gets a couple of assists and Maguire gets on the end of a corner and suddenly the rags are back. Funny how they can’t do it in the champions league group stages or in Europe’s second tier club competition. Not to mention finishing a country mile behind the Premier league champions, they don’t like to talk about that do they?

Bbc don’t understand if they say to Liniker unless we half your wages to 600k a year you can go! Now who will give him a better job that lets him go to the euros the World Cup and get paid for it watching all that live football?!

Why are they paying him that much? You don’t tune into match of the day to watch Lineker and his snide remarks, does anyone actually watch of the day these days? Highlights are easy to find elsewhere before half 10 if you miss anything.

Yep, the best version was Fivepenny Piece's...

Saw them when I was a kid at the old Davenport Cinema in Stockport. Brilliant old group, combining funny songs with some lovely balads. All now long gone sadly.

Just made me sad that. Reminds me of my dad.
He loved fivepenny piece.

Market forces tbh. He's clearly popular. I'd much rather have Lineker than neville or carragher (who both earn double Lineker)
For me it's more like well done Lineker for not fucking off for more money.

Even United fans I know think he's shit.
He is great with his head according to some BBC employee and that's why he is called 'slabhead'.

It would be easy to make a compilation of his cock ups to rival Phil the Face although he expressionless slab face doesn't move so he is behind Phil in the gurning stakes.
