He was invited in because he was a proddy-dog not a cat-lick and his wife was the daughter of James II. The pair of them agreed to the Bill of Rights of 1689 establishing a constitutional monarchy. The current thinking that it was a successful invasion on the scale of 1066 seems to me to complete bollocks.Technically he was invited in by the protestants as they didn't want a catholic king (James II), but yes, you could argue it was the last successful conquest of mainland Britain. A couple of little corporal's tried in later years, but never got anywhere! :-)
