I’ve honestly never noticed you referring to him as a mate. I clearly need to spend more time on here!

Nothing wrong whatsoever with you defending someone you consider a mate. I would doubtless do the same. We can‘t all agree about people and life would be significantly duller if we did. My principal point remains, however: at a time of crisis for the club, he conspicuously failed to report on us in a way that was fair or informed, and for me, that is unforgivable, as well as being completely unprofessional; he is well rewarded for reporting on Manchester City and should respect that fact when disseminating on such an important subject. The fact the subject matter was in relation to something I (and you) care about so deeply, inevitably accentuates any negative feeling on my part. Stands to reason.

As to defending me personally, whilst much appreciated, having, as you say, met me in real life, you’ll be well aware I’m more than capable of defending myself :-)
You've written words I've never even heard of let alone could spell.

Posh twat :)

And here's me thinking you follow my posts religiously!

I was highly critical of the Athletic's coverage of the CAS case in general and specifically of Sam and Matt Slater and their lazy attitude towards what constituted an expert on the matter. Specifically in their case because they had been burned by their 'sources' first time round on the initial UEFA investigation verdict, I found it depressing they then doubled down on 'guilty until proven innocent' rather than looking at the facts.

The whole thing definitely put a strain on our friendship, but ultimately he's a good guy, and whilst it may not be what you want to hear, I don't believe his integrity can be questioned. From top to bottom the only 'experts' around were ones who were absolutely convinced that City were guilty and were bang to rights. In our City bubble we would absolutely be seeking out different voices, but I understand why Sam ended up in the position he ended up in. He was surrounded by people who were queuing up to say the same thing and everyone around him was lapping it up.

Stefan said to me around the time of the verdict that he couldn't believe how many otherwise intelligent, highly successful people he'd encountered, who were completely blinkered when it came to the CAS case because of their tribal loyalties. Barristers, doctors, the lot.

Ultimately though we won. The Athletic and all their experts were wrong. Forgive a moment of hubris but I think the best and most accurate coverage of the whole thing came from Stefan on our podcast. You can't buy that sort of satisfaction after everything that had been written before it.

I'm sorry if it sounded like I was being a dick when I said you spend too much time on here. You do, but since you have managed to do that and also become a yacht owning sweater round the neck wearing lord of the manor, who am I to judge.

What are you drinking? I'm going to start on the mezcal now...Mezcal Mondays has a nice ring to it.

They ended up paying him substantial damages.

Like a mescal, but been on the wagon since 28th December until (hopefully) the end of February - before I recommence a full-on assault on my liver over the spring once the pubs (hopefully) reopen. Lost half a stone in two weeks and hoping to lose two by the end of Feb. Figured if I don’t do it now, I never will.

It’s boring as fuck, though.

Obviously not to losing half a stone, just the lengths you’re going to to add “Catalogue Model” to your CV.

'The lawyer who defends himself has a fool for a client'. As Horace Rumpole said in the Penge Bungalow Murders trial.

You're right. In general I've absolutely passed opinions on people I've never met. I also appreciate that Sam as someone who covers City is 'fair game' on Bluemoon.

However I also think you going out of your way to reply to something I've posted to call him names, knowing that I know him and have said on here before that I consider him a mate, to be a bit sad. I also know you in the real world and if someone went of their way to call you names to me I'd tell them to wind their neck in.
We all know our mates can act like dicks in public Billy, and fair enough that we often defend them in public, but to me, real and true friends, we drag them to one side after and tell them they've acted a ****, I hope you've done that with Super Joey Hart , er sorry I mean Spam Lee ?
