If a small supermarket chain have a store that is not making money they close it. They realise that throwing money at a loss making store will not get people through the door and they will not want to affect their profit margins.
Further, they would not go to a larger more profitable company like Tescos and ask for money to help them keep trading (at a loss)

The Football league was financially in the shit long before Covid so what good does 200 mill do ? It will help them keep operating for what, a season ? Then what, do they ask for more money ? It is sad when a small club folds but it is usually because it has been poorly run, often by crooks. Throwing money at the FL is simply wasting it. If they want to survive they have to reform..... but they wont. They never learn and so like Woolworths and others, they will go bust.

You would certainly look at how to put the shop in the black, strangely too many of the EFL clubs don't seem too concerned.

It's a bit of both, for many small clubs they are probably no longer viable. If the club has a big club in close proximity a lot of young fans will latch onto that. If they live far away they usually buy the shirt of a big club and watch them on tv, support from afar. The attraction of standing in the cold and rain to watch often sub standard football with no chance of success won't be appealing to a lot of kids.

The lower leagues need revamping but getting in bed with the devil that is Parry, the rags and dippers isn't the answer.

This is true and is the basis of much thinking on free market economics. It holds true when talking about supermarkets but even there we have measures and commissions to protect the integrity of the market and prevent monopolies. Football and football fans in particular do not want to see a monopoly but we are dangerously close to it. We argue that English football is the most competitive in the world but this is debatable. We talk of "any six" clubs being able to win the PL, but when did all six actually compete genuinely for it? Only 7 clubs have ever won it, and the other 14 seem to have little or no chance. And this is making the FA and League cup less and less competitive, with many teams fielded are actually an insult. That's before we consider the clubs of the EFL.

I have no idea what measures can halt, let alone reverse, these developments but I am convinced that the "football authorities" have to consider ideas from all quarters with an interest and not be panicked into some self interested power grab from a bunch of venture capitalists.

Or they could find an investor....say... from the Middle East perhaps, who wants to buy, and put large sums of money into your struggling business, and make a success of it, only to be told by the grocers’ regulatory body, run by a cartel of the biggest and wealthiest supermarkets, that you cannot put your own dosh into your own business, on pain of heavy fines and bans.
But surely that scenario could never arise in the modern competitive business or sports world?

Its an interesting debate how media is used to give people perceptions of issues or people.

This week's spitting image for example had sketches with Herr Klopp making him out to be always happy and smiling despite losing losing 7-2, rags sending him shit in the post, Everton fans throwing bricks at him. The sketch finished with a bomb being delivered to him and his severed head smiling as it landed in the sink.
