Yikes.

Whenever Tony Evans is mentioned I'm reminded of him on the Times Football Podcast in December of 2015 laughing out loud at the prospect that Pep was headed to City. I do believe that his exact words were "why would he go there? he likes clubs with history".
However big a **** he seems to be from the outside, he's a far, far bigger **** in person.

From what I can gather, the specific criticism of Sam is that he handled the FFP/CAS story very badly (you can apply whatever adjective you want there). I've already said that I agree with that and that I think it extends to the Athletic as a whole.

However I'm yet to see any other actual concrete example of Sam writing something hostile or bad about the club. People seem to dislike his manner on Twitter, but then having seen the amount of abuse he takes from faceless accounts, I completely understand why he'll dismiss certain people or certain claims of bias.

That’s fair enough & you are right about the concerns about FFP which you agree with.

is he worse than Delaney, McKenna, Syed & all those, no, not a Fcking chance but they don’t pretend to be well informed, close to our club, in contact & understand our views. It hurt so much because he was so well thought of by us, he was trusted & then “my perception” was he started having snide digs.

Then the zoom chat - wtf was that about?
I suspected it was on orders from the athletic, if that’s the case then you make your bed then lie in it.

This place might mock James Pearce et al, but it's pretty clear from the absolute vitriol every single journalist in the country gets on here that actually, a sycophant who never entertains a bad word about the club is exactly what they want.

There is literally not a single journalist in the sport that has not been attacked in this thread or its predecessors for being biased against us or having some unnamed ulterior motive. Maybe Martin Samuel because he only comments once a year and is anti FFP.
Not at all mate, I want a journalist to be fair and reasoned across the board (in effect, whilst being knowledgeable they should be colour blind to the particular teams in question).

If City are doing something good, write about it and say so (not in that usual snide 'well done for doing this, but so they should do because they have spent X, Y and Z'.

If City are making a complete arse of something, then call it out as it is and report it.

This should be equal across the board regardless of the club involved - we know this is not the case;

Positive story about United, Liverpool and Arsenal + negative story about City = multiple clicks and news outlets live to fight another day.........

Fairness and credit where its due should be their aim and would certainly do for me.
Anything else is just advertising.

I think part of the problem could be that so much of what is written about United/Liverpool is so fucking sycophantic that when it comes to City we can't help but feel our coverage is negative in comparison to that. Not saying that there isn't bias in the media against City, because there surely is from certain writers and certain outlets. But maybe there is something in the idea that we would like some cheerleading for a bit. Especially as we've been the most successful team of the last decade.

Then again, like someone said to me about life in general, you can be successful or you can be liked, but being both will be an uphill battle.

As they do very little in the line of investigatory journalism, it should be a very simple gig to be part of the sport, enjoy all the free sh1t that comes your way and provide a balanced view on things without playing to the gallery...........

I only pop on this thread every now and then to see if Prestwich Blue has said anything good as alluded to a few times

Have I missed out?

Haha. I can't get enough of Tony Evo's nonsense. A shining example of why the drugs don't aways work.

I just went looking for the pod and found one in May 2015 (right around Pellegrini being called a dead man walking) and it's brilliant.

Tony Evans - I'm angry with Man City... If they don't change the regime there, it's scandalous.
Marcotti - When you say the regime, do you mean the manager or Txiki and Ferran?
Tony Evans - The manager, end the catalan experiment, it's an absolute mess there....
[Rory Smith explains they are waiting for Pep]
Marcotti - I love this idea. I know Txiki has a record but...Where did Pep go after Barcelona? Munich! Where he doesn't speak the language No Catalans, no catalan food. He doesn't need his pals!
Tony Evans - And he tells anyone that'll listen The 3 clubs he said he wanted to manage were Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Man United!!
Marcotti - And Brescia!
Tony Evans - " [I know] Someone with good contacts with him, I asked them what City would have to do to get Guardiola in next year (2016) and he said 'Find 50 years of history, quick'
[Everyone laughs]
Tony Evans - "It's not going to happen."
158 days later, 10/10/15, Pep signed his contract.

10 mins in, Evans - "Chelsea won nothing between when Mourinho left and came back stupidly trying to play attractive football" to which Marcotti replied "Except the Champions League, Europa League and League/FA Cup double scoring a record 103 goals"

Then they argue if Pochettino is better than Sherwood or AVB. Finally they go onto City.

THAT'S THE ONE! Mate, can you DM me a link please!

His claim of Uefa having new evidence for CAS was genuinely incredible.
I liked his 4am drunken Twitter rants. I always envisioned him fumbling for his phone as he awoke with a raging hangover, marinating beneath a piss-soaked Liverpool duvet in a spare bedroom festooned with images of Klopp, like an even more hellish version of Alan Partridge’s superfan/stalker Ged.
No wonder it took the Independent more than a week to edit a bare faced lie/glaring factual inaccuracy (take your pick) in the very first paragraph of his hilarious reaction to the CAS decision. It probably took that long to sober him up.

So basically Tony Evans is a know nowt Dick Head :-)

Yeh fair point - I would like to think that people can see through my posts that my general 'issue' with Rasford's crusade is fairly tongue in cheek.

My actual problem is with the over the top reporting and coverage that is given to this due to the club that he plays for (hence it is in the Media thread).

The reporting really has nothing to do with the very worthwhile cause of feeding hungry children (I think it's a fair assumption that the people who do have an issue with this are very few and far between).

In keeping with this thread, the BBC and the the like should not be given a pat on the back for the constant reporting on one of their favourite subjects, positive Manchester United news.............
I would like to pat Mata on the back for his quiet unobtrusive and lasting generosity to charities and l would like the BBC to adapt its stanard phrase when branded products are mentioned:
'Other football players are available and give significant amounts of their time and earnings to charity'.
