It's funny how they never say that about other clubs who have changed and become commercially savvy etc compared to the chip shop mentality of the 60s,70s and before ! Its just us that are not the same.Wonder why ? Maybe its the "type" of owner they dont like ! Henderson is in there with the likes of Schindler, etc, who say they preferred it when you couldn't get to the bogs for a piss at half time and stood in a cowshed watching your team.Or is it more they are just a bit racist and bang on about the way we were but it's really just an excuse ! He was an old mate of my brother's and he used to stand on the Kippax in the early 80s before the bright lights of London beckoned. Not a proper fan at all nor is anyone who comes out with crap like the club losing its soul, etc.Utter bollocks !
As one of the people on here lucky enough to have seen Colin in his pomp you are correct about some elements of the match day experience in those "halcyon" days Peter. We laugh about customer service today and the way we are described as customers but my memories of Maine Road were as you describe. The new ground may be, as many are these days, a bit antiseptic, but I feel safe there, I can get out safely without the scary steps and tunnels of the old days, I can, sometimes with a bit of a struggle, always get some overpriced ale to drink, I get a good view of the game, the pitch is always immaculate, I can walk around the ground without stepping in animal shit, apart from a few drips penetrating the roof, why can't they sort that out, rainfall doesn't impact me when I am watching. Oh yes and the football I have been watching for the past 10 years has generally been of a very high standard played by some exceptional players, what a shame the club I have watched for 60 years has lost its soul, utter bollocks as you say.
As for Henderson I won't be buying his hand wringing 50 people who have ruined football production, albeit there are, apparently. comedic elements within it.

Keown and Merson, who were probably the thickest cunts in that arsenal era are the two who have stolen a living out of football punditry.
Tells us all we need to know about how little emphasis is put on quality of analysis.
Merson does have some comedic moments (if I am being generous) but Keown is just an un-likable, no-nowt, boring ape like tw@t - offers less than nothing in the way of insight and possess's zero charisma.................

Media machine:

“What ever the result football wins”.

The agenda is front and centre today.

We are plastic fans that don’t attend games. We are cheats with oil money.
We are corrupt human rights abusers.

As another poster eluded to earlier it is a media rivalry in name only. The commercial success of the premier league and by association the broadcasters and broadsheets relies heavily on the rags & the scousers.

They have politicised the sport and spread gossip as truth.

Chelsea were allowed in as it still left the Scum, Arsenal, Liverpool/Spurs a chance to finish top 4 each year. City came along and oh shit we can’t be having another team competing for honours as the myth created would crumble.

Not only did we compete but dominated. So when you are annoyed at the media/fans gobbing off today smile and realise we have caused untold damage to this myth.

It’s like the matrix. They want to live in the media machine.

So fuck them for not wanting to see the truth. Another team is competing so get used to it.

Watched MOTD and was not surprised to see shots of scorers were cut short before teams mates actually got to cuddle with them. They were too late with the WBA goals. BFS himself has been outspoken about it because of the 'nrisks he runs as an older purpose.
So we have:
Fernandes and his stupid thumb sucking
Pogba and his silly dance with that other simpleton.
Maddison playing the clever ****.
The idiot who pretended to do the backstroke before his idiot team mates went in for the cuddle.
And then football expert (not) Jenas states that 'footballers are creative and will soon develop a way of celebrating.' I have to say l prefer City's football creativity but l dread the thought of a procession of clowns like Pogba doing dances like something from the Ministry of Silly Celebrations.
A decade or so ago I used to occasionally watch my nephew in action for his local junior side. One of his enthusiastic but less skilful teammates was always at the centre of goal celebrations whenever the team managed to score. After one particularly elaborate celebration, I said to my nephew's chum (recalling the hours I spent as a kid perfecting juggling skills with the ball, my fitness and stamina to be able to play etc etc..) 'If you lot spent half the time you do on goal celebrations actually on practising your football skills, you'd be twice the players you are..'

It's like with social media/celebrity culture etc.. seems so many of them want the 'sizzle' but don't want to put the work in.. (I am available btw for kids' parties, bar-mitzvahs and so on.. search under 'Captain Happy'..)

I was thinking you and I could do a double act a Waldorf and Statler which the 'other John Evans' and l posted under in the Telegraph some years back. We used to rip apart the foreigners who used to claim me matchgoers. Easy enough when they used to claim it took 5 minutes max to get from Hazel Grove onto the M60 in the town centre on a Saturday lunchtime. Strange folks.

That f***ing Rag fanzine, the Daily United, the hypocritical c*nts!

Leicester don't count due to their lack of history and prestige

Beckham was told by his handlers - If you score, run off on your own to celebrate for maximum personnel exposure, if one of your team mates score, get into the shot as the main focus of the photo opportunity (he used climb onto their shoulders).

Lets hope it is the most boring, tedious unwatchable goalless games of the season and lets see what the fawning paps can get out of that
There has to be a good chance - either a "the most boring, tedious unwatchable goalless games of the season" or "a goalless comedy of errors". All due to the absence of both sets of the most knowledgeable, passionate fans in the world in one of the true cathedrals of world football. Nearly all the ingredients are there for the same kind of unrivalled fare that these two serve up season after season.

"While the world and his wife get giddy over Liverpool and Manchester United playing out a "title decider", Manchester City and Pep Guardiola are quietly going about their business. They are out of their early-season struggles and are 4/6 with Sky Bet to win their third title in four seasons."

:)

Exactly Sky etc can bullshit all they like about the red shirts but when it comes to money they know the real score.
