A posh style of Wimbledon !

Thats the one, they wank over Fergie and because Pep has nothing to do with United he can never be considered a great in their eyes. How many of their sides will they talk about for their great football, they don’t get mentioned within the likes of Puskas’ Mardrid, Cruyff’s Ajax, Brazil 1970 or Pep’s Barcelona. Yet we must somehow regard Fergie as the best, if they didn’t have that jump start of that dodgy carved up tv deal in the early 90s would they have won all those trophies if the league remained Barclays league division 1? Probably not.

What change in style of football did Fergie bring to English football? Pep won all these trophies and his teams will still be talked about long after he’s gone, Fergie never created anything like Barcelona between 2009-2011. In fact he had a front row seat as probably the best group of players he had were destroyed by Pep in two champions league finals.
Greatness in a coach is not measured by trophies alone. You are quite right. The great innovators go down in history-- Rinus Michels, for example. Pep is an innovator, Ferguson was a pragmatist who took advantage of their financial lead. Nowt wrong with that, but greatness lies beyond that. Look how English football has changed since Pep showed the way.

The first 10 years of the PL were the most unequal financially in the history of English football. A good way to support this that there have been 12 doubles in English football history. 2 in the late 1800s when football was just beginning and competition was less demanding. There were 5 in the 9 seasons from 1994-2002.

Utd and Arsenal had a huge financial advantage over every one else and made the most of it. BUT Fergie was a fantastic manager. You Can attack his CL record but I think to be fair minded you have you admire his record.

However it shows how great Pep is that if he stayed at City (with the favorable conditions Utd had for Fergie tenure) he would break all his records.

The journo on the Monday Night Club on 5live, Rory something? Questioning how Pep could be regarded as the best manager of his generation when he hasn't won a CL for 10 years.
Ferguson won 2 in 30 plus years, the same as Pep has done so far, and he's often touted as one of the greatest ever. Different rules I suppose?

I think the difference is that Ferguson was a great Manager. Great at motivating and driving players on. His record speaks for itself (don't forget Aberdeen). But Pep is a great Coach and has revolutionised football across the world, especially in England. I think it is fantastic that the people of Manchester have been lucky enough to enjoy these amazing eras of football whoever they support.
