And to think he was doing it all for free….or should that be 90k Pw paid for by 32red (initially) the fact he only deferred payments during administration probably means he’s still squeezing em for the same amount. Can you imagine the uproar if Peps wage was paid by The Abu Dhabi National oil company? Or Vinnie deferred wages at Anderlecht? But Rooney is the patron saint of Derbyshire for getting them to the equivalent of mid table & getting the drinks in every now & again, so what if he sleeps at the training ground, it’s only because his missus is tired of him taking young girls back to his hotel room
Young girls, are you sure ?

I was thinking along the same lines.

It’s not coincidence that these articles all appear at the same time.

It’s co-ordinated.
Football reporters have always operated as a tight pack. The culture of sharing angles on stories in advance is embedded. They always discuss the line they are taking with each other after each press conference and sometimes before. The main reason this system evolved was through fear of losing face (or even their jobs) if they missed a story or a good angle published by one of their rivals. There is strong peer-group pressure in the football pack to "not rock the boat." Sometimes when they use a quote from an anonymous source and describe it as "an insider" it is actually information they have got from a fellow reporter on another publication.
This is how the sort of absurd fake stories we have repeatedly seen end up being published in multiple outlets. This is why most genuine journalists have nothing but contempt for their "pals" on the Sportsdesk.

I think the whole narrative around Rooney as poisoned/hyped as the one around City.

If he loses its the owners fault. If he wins he is a genius because he's doing it despite the owners. Yet another misinformation bubble set to burst somewhere further down the line.

Unless there is something I dont know about him but I dont see the ability in his managership as much as maybe Lampard or Gerrard, they appear to have real ideas and gravitas to back it up.
Is Paul Stretford still Rooney's agent? Just google his name if you want a flavour of what creates the hype around Rooney.

A City employee once told me that after a press conference (think it was a Mancini one) they came across a group of journalists from the 'red tops' agreeing how they were going to spin it.

When Mane kicked Eddie in the face Neville and Tyler perhaps as expected went on and on about it being not a red card offence. But when the media reports came out they were all in agreement. At other matches this common like they take always comes out instantly so it must be agreed somehow in the press box. Then the lesser outlets follow suit.
Football has been said to be all about opinions but there is little disagreement in City reports.
Just thought of all the stuff they used to put out about Mario. 'Man goes shopping and buys more than planned' isn't a newspaper story it's the story of my life and most other people.
