Media Thread - 2021/22

Of course it does. Media pours millions into attacking MCFC. Its reverse marketing. The business world has been doing it for decades and some people think it doesn't work? There is now a perception of MCFC but the flipside to this is that most City fans like being the rebel. City grew when we went to Division Two.

The more water they throw on our fire, the faster we build it but to argue that either method doesn't have an effect is stupid. We have a media thread because pumping huge volumes of negative publicity out there has consequence
This is true. Those who say that relentless negative media campaigns against City and our owner have no impact on our reputation and our business are wrong. For example I believe the last New York City stadium deal was undermined by local anti-arab human rights campaigners. They have a strong lobby in New York City. That remains an issue for CFG.
The latest phrase creeping into press conferences and the media (Klopp and Ole have both used it recently) is "We (LFC and MUFC) are a self-sustaining club." That is a line fed in by the Comms team at LFC and MUFC and is designed to damage City as much as possible. It is more nuanced than the "oil money" narrative which doesn't stack up in any case. That phrase has not appeared out of nowhere.
That said we have achieved success in spite of the smear campaigns and will continue to do so if we hold our nerve.

Off City Media topic.

A prime example of the Rag infested football media in this country.

The Daily United online today.

The headline article.

Haaland's wage demands, Raiola's agent fees, and why Chelsea walked away and moved for Lukaku instead.(apparently??)

A couple of articles down.

No mention of Haaland's wage demands or Raiola's agent fees.

Cue another another 12 months of Haaland to United before he signs for Real Madrid.

The media buried any talk of United paying an agent fee for Pogba too... If I remember rightly, it was denied they paid anything with the media insistent that Juventus had to stump up his fee... however it came out that they did indeed pay up to £19mil as well as Juve paying approx £20mil... it's also said that United have to pay an annual premium of £1mil plus.
No surprise, the media kept incredibly quiet on that!

It absolutely does have an impact. As an example - if you were thinking of visiting a local restaurant and decided to check the reviews, only to find an overwhelmingly high proportion of negative feedback - chances are you wouldn't go! No apply this to City - who, if we like it or not, want to increase their global appeal/fanbase – however, these prospective fans will read or watch media content slagging us off constantly and it will sway their opinion.
Some may dismiss this - but it's a tactic big corporations use... Samsung were fined years ago for paying people to leave negative reviews on the products of their competitors... Disney use Youtubers and online movie critics to leave overwhelmingly positive reviews in return for 'access'.
It's there for all of us to see on social media – only in the past week or so, look how many posts put a picture of the Etihad from years ago, before kick-off, with loads of empty seats... and only blues called bullshit - almost all the opposition/neutrals that commented took it as a genuine picture from last weekend... they're so eager to believe it, and that's down to the constant wave of negative 'propaganda' reinforcing this falsehood.
It may not seem a concern to us fans, but i'm sure it is to the club as they strive to

They sang this at Carlisle when I was a kid in the 70's but it went

No one likes us, no one likes us
No one likes us, we don't care!

We are Carlisle, super Carlisle
We are Carlisle, from the North.

Probably true, nobody liked the long journey to Brunton Park on a cold winters night lol
Who sang this?

You're not very good
You're not very good
You're not very, you're not very, you're not very good

pause

In Fact,

You're shit and you know you are
You're shit and you know you are, you're shit and you know you are

Sold his sole to the (Red) Devil(s) for a nice fee and exclusivity to United.

Sadly, he seems to be doing a good job for the Rags and their PR and media department.

Chief Football Reporter Neil Ashton has left The Sun to become a PR adviser for Manchester United.

His new company is called Ashton Media Group, although Prolific North understands United are currently his sole client.

Breaking IR35 rules, think I'll report him to HMRC.

To be fair if that story about Raiola is half true Haaland won't be going anywhere. I don't believe City or United would consider paying sums on that scale to Raiola. It is not just abut the money. In the current climate no football club can afford to risk their reputation by becoming linked on such a scale to a criminal enterprise. Real Madrid who are currently being hammered by the Spanish authorities for tax fraud and other financial issues won't go there either. I suspect, as many have said on here, that Raiola is just too toxic. It looks like Haaland's dad is willing to sacrifice his own son's career to make a financial killing. With City's past FFP issues we just can't get involved in this one which is probably why we have pursued Kane so aggressively.
