Warts and All - " ...must not airbrush his darker side"
From The Times, 1 Sept. 2021
- " Nobody wished to risk destabilising the gravy train — not the United board, and certainly not the Premier League hierarchy."
The writer of this piece attempts to bring some balance to the media coverage of the cult of celebrity currently engulfing the out of towners and, whilst the forced, illegal postponement of the first ever Premier League match was covered up under a big red carpet now emblazoned with CR7 and available for sale in China, there is a little more perspective for once from this particular journalist.
"For years Ferguson defied his contractual obligation to provide post-match interviews to the BBC, banned journalists whose copy he didn’t like from the Old Trafford media room and impugned the integrity of referees and fixture compilers whose decisions he didn’t like."
Whilst this is well known, the writer notes,
" At the moment, these stories are not newsworthy". They have largely been lost in a
" rose-tinted parody of a football manager."
In our lifetimes though, warts and all will be revealed.
