Wasn't the selling of Aldridge the reason Mark Lawrenson left the manager's job at Oxford? The chairman at the time Robert Maxwell (I wonder what happened to him) sold him just as Oxford were making a push for promotion to the top division, they'd just won 9 on the trot if I remember correctly.

the season they sold him they'd just stopped up in the old first division by one place, maybe they won the 9 on the trot to get out of the relegation zone maybe?

In his time at Liverpool he achieved one league title and one fa cup, same as Kolo Toure and Adam Johnson did for City. Hardly people we talk about as legends.

All I think of when I think about him is the FA Cup final penalty miss v Wimbledon and the shouting match on the touchline for Ireland in the 1994 World Cup in the USA. Can't remember anything else about him - literally. Sums him up - a no mark Scouser with a huge gob who drinks too much.
