It is, but the story comes from The Athletic with the MP criticising being Chris Bryant, the very same Chris Bryant who tweeted the following to a Russian Oligarch father and son:

So not the government then. Not even anyone with any responsibility for the Middle East.

Help me, Rhondda (yes, I know).

Although they have to be seen to be critical of any overtures to Syria, I very much doubt the government or foreign office will be personally criticising Mansour. Not a great headline by the BBC, unless I am wrong.

This is wrong, the government did comment for The Atletic's article.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) responded to the move by saying: "It is the UK's firm belief that - in the absence of a change in behaviour by the Syrian regime - strengthening ties undermines the prospect of a lasting and inclusive peace in Syria."

Not gone down well with many a football journalist:

At last someone spells it out. Anything fan-led is driven by tribalism not logic. Such as the "consultation" was, the outcome, as in so many of these types of enquiry was pre-determined based on the media-driven zeitgeist. And we all know what that is really about.

Aren’t they missing the main point - in that the most significant meeting Assad had was with the ruler of Dubai? I’d like some comment from the FA on that given that Emirates is the title sponsor, oh and what have Arsenal got to say on the subject?

You are correct, the response given looks to be a standard one issued by the FCDO regarding Syria, a government comment all the same though.

The UN though appear to be strongly signalling that they want clear dialogue being opened between Syria and other Arab nations and it would indicate strongly that this is the first step in that process.

The UN guidance as listed several pages back in this thread is clear to see but seems absent from any of these world leading political think tanks and publications such as The Athletic and all the usual equally qualified sports journalists who clearly are following their own agenda/bias to click bait on what is genuine suffering in Syria, Ukraine and Yemen and being demeaned and trivialised by these prícks remarks on which they appear to have designated themselves commentators on.

This got me a block from Mr Harris.
And that's the biggest problem with people like Harris. He states his opinion as fact and when he get challenged on it rather than engage in a conversation for him to respond he just Blocks people so other people take his opinion as fact

Now, why would the Institute for Economic Affairs be interested in the proposed independent regulator for football?

The IEA is part of a network of right-wing think-tanks with their origin, plus much of their funding (it's believed), emanating from extreme conservative circles in the USA. Think Koch brothers and the like. In fact, it's been revealed that the IEA received funding from the tobacco industry, via BAT. It's part of the network of think-tanks advocating privatisation of the NHS and climate change denial.

Given that, it's not a huge leap to think that the usual suspects (Glazers, Kroenke, FSG) are behind this. They don't want an independent regulator, as it removes their control over the PL, which makes me automatically think it's therefore a good idea. Having said that, it may also be that we don't want it either.

Unless I am mistaken, the FCDO didn't personally criticise Mansour, which was the implication of the headline. This is the point I was making, replying to @SilvaisSkyBlue who referred to Chris Bryant as the muppet personally criticising Mansour.
