Years ago, I knew a girl who had worked at a pub near Preston Park and she said that Aldridge, Eric Nixon and some other “billy big nuts” were regulars at the pub. They’d sit at the biggest table in the middle and just click their fingers and shout “drinks”. None of them would get up to the bar and ask. She said they were a really horrible arrogant group and just made absolute pricks of themselves. So much so, that one afternoon Nixon had an argument with quite a handy local lad who followed Nixon into the toilets and beat the shit out of him

I'm a bit surprised at Nixon he used to play in goal on occasion for the Snooty Fox on Princess parkway before he became famous and was well liked.

As for wankers, for those in the service; industry a couple of eye drops in a drink or soup used to give them the shits. Colourless, odourless and tasteless it was perfect.

His ex wife was on some TV show and was introduced as the wife of footballer Eric Nixon. She hastily corrected the clown of a presenter who was going down the footballers and money route. She gave the distinct impression that violence was the cause of break up.
She was a police woman so he was lucky he only got divorced.

Apparently when he (Eric) played for Curzon Ashton he walked into Maine Road and told them that they should sign him because he was a better goalkeeper than Alex Williams, who ironically had been in the year above him at Wilbraham. Not sure Alex was too impressed at the time or indeed now!

Surprised as well. I knew him from Withington. In those days he was a big Blue and popular in my local…The Old House at Home. Not arrogant at all.

Used to love scoring hat-tricks against Wilbraham for Claremont Road.

Wilbraham was the posh Fallowfield school as far as us from Moss Side were concerned!
