When my gran died way back in 1978 (I think) I begged my mum and dad to give our paltry inheritance to city as they needed it more than us. And yes we were poor.

In a parallel world someone in the press would be celebrating 70,000 people from some of the poorest parts of the U.K. spending hundreds of pounds each, dragging themselves hundreds of miles across the country for a football match.

Instead we get how great it is that one of the wealthiest fanbases in the league playing the best supported team in the country a short train ride away from all their houses can get so many turning up.

I went to live in London from Manchester in the late eighties. By the mid nineties all of the rags I knew were cocknies.

They wouldn't know where Salford was if their lives depended on it.

They thought I was mad when I insisted there was only one club from Manchester and that we played at Maine Road.

We all know the rags will want to try n stifle our treble bid more than them wanting to win it for themselves.
