Where did it all go wrong?

This is what’s worrying about pundits in the game. Real Madrid at home changed their whole system to nullify us. They had 3 credible efforts on target at home. One would have been ruled out for offside. They had their defence sit so deep it nullified our biggest threat. They stretched the game so much, we could not press as a team. I would have left us far too isolated in midfield if the broke the press.

They basically did what West Ham did but with world class players.

We still scored. Haaland should have done better on occasion and De Bruyne could have had another on a another night.

Courtois even alluded to the fact their game plans was to reduce us to efforts from outside the box.

The heat will have affected our press too. But Ancelotti hasn’t won all he’s won without amazing tactical awareness. They gave up possession and wanted to isokate their front three against our back 3. Then rely on individual brilliance.

I think both systems cancelled each other out.
At the Etihad, conditions will be cooler, and the press will be easier.

If we were lacking ‘punch’ then so were Real. Two speculative drives from distance at home.

If we are poor for drawing away, does that make Real even worse for drawing at home?

Even if we win the treble and this trophy after annihilating our group and then beating Bayern and Real along the way to the final, there will still be negative media stories, but we always knew it would be like that
