In response to a suggestion that the year's CL was a bit easier to win this year:

"the last 15 years it feels like the field of potential winners of the CL has got smaller and this year felt like the smallest ever. In fact it did come down to the fact that once Liverpool were knocked out, and once Bayern were knocked out admittedly by City, once Madrid were knocked out, it was kind of was a clear path, and even the final was [bit of praise that Inter played their best, but that it was City playing themselves to some extent]."

It's a bit gabbled, and I don't think he said "a clear path to the final", but essentially the only alternative meaning is that the final opposition could have been stronger.

He did of course feel obliged to claim that it's City's owners doing in part that the field is smaller.
Essentially, his argument is because City eliminated the two other main contenders for the CL, there were no other real contenders for the CL other than City.

Incredibly astute observation, that.

By the way, over the last 15 years, there have only been 12 clubs that have contested the final, City and Inter being among them one other time during that period, with Real Madrid contesting 5 times, and Bayern contesting it 4 times, totalling 9 of the 15 finals (not facing eachother once during that period).

This year was similar to every other year when it comes to real contenders to win it.

We just happened to be much better than two of the teams that have dominated it over the last 15 years, which was probably our actual sin.

I did say a clause in his contract could make it different, however I’ll let you off Victor or Jack or possibly Isa, two pints prick :-).
I completely get the contractual side of this. My point was that many large employers do offer enhanced redundancy terms to employees which are not specifically included in the employment contract. On that basis, I don't think the reporting on this i.e. that a large redundancy payment could be on the cards is unreasonable (which is a departure from the usual drivel, I admit)

If you want to have a valid opinion about their coverage, instead of “I’ve watched Georgios Samaras on YouTube, he’s ace”! ;-)
The Athletic do lead with the fact that CBS clips go viral, as if this is the most important aspect of their coverage, and chose two clips to show - one where they just made fun of each other, and the other where Pep said they were the 'funniest show'.

It literally is the Samarasation of football coverage :)

Ha. As much as we may hate it, the broadcasters have to operate in the current consumptive media environment, and so virility is an element of being successful.

But it’s not the only element, and not the only reason their coverage is substantially better.

I have outlined other reasons.

The absolute fucking hypocrite. He had to be threatened with police and legal action over his harassment of me and a few other Blues, plus he was one of the group that complained to my then employer and tried to get me sacked.

And he's complaining about a few insults thrown at Delaney.
Think I’d be tempted to throw something more tangible!

More importantly I was referring to your username and Still Game!
