I've dug out the last program of that season against Wigan P/O semi final second leg as a matter of interest.
I seem to recall the first and last home games against Blackpool and York being sell outs in the home sections when they're were 32.000 plus there.
Interesting to read that out of the 23 teams we played 19 had their best home gates. Taking crowds of 4320 to places like Reading for a 3rd tier club is and was good by any standard, especially for a club with no support.

The thing I remember about that York game was they put the away fans in that little block between the Main and North Stands, underneath the police box. J Stand was it? Don’t think I can remember another time that happened.

'Premier League is asked if it has investigated Manchester City owner over Russia allegations'

From the Guardian - I had expected one of the usual suspects with a 'PL Investigation' or 'fake sponsor', but this sort f garbage isn't far short of outrageous. After a week of Haaland release clause nonsense too. Usual supposition but easy retweet fodder.

We can only keep winning games - hopefully on Sunday too.
We should really start a total ban on some media, deny them access to everything City, take the bloody gloves off as our policy of dealing with the media has not worked, if anyone openly calls us cheats then set the solicitors on them

Assuming there’s no mention of how much the respective starting xi cost
Nothing or no mention of how awful the opponents are, lost all group games last season and this and not spent a penny on transfers in 4 years, about a Billion pound spend difference between the teams.

This made me laugh in the report though, this 3 games run inc De Gea MOTM v Everton and a 3-2 and 1-0 win v last night opponents who are Division 2 quality at best:

While there will still be concerns for Ten Hag as his side clearly lacked ruthlessness, the result means they have now won three games in a row since the 6-3 humbling at Manchester City.

I think it’s a bit above the Premier League’s pay grade to investigate international sanctions busting allegations involving one of the UK’s key allies
Don't forget that another major UK ally, the Saudis, negotiated the recent release of British prisoners from the Russians in Ukraine. It doesn't fit with the usual narrative does it?

Another showing of racism from the media who pointedly refer to Dubai being where certain Russians are moored. Very much a "they all look alike" approach from the British media
Avoid reading the guardian, but if the article is referring to Russians based in Dubai, then surely Arsenal should be the main target of their ire, given that is where Emirates Airline are based and Arsenals biggest sponsor.

You're spot on that we didn't fill it every home game in 1998/99 but I think Maine Road's capacity was quite a bit less than 34,000 back then. IIRC our biggest home crowd was around 32,500 against York City (without checking 32,471 sticks in my head!) in the last league game which was more than the first game against Blackpool and even the Wigan play-off home leg (probably due to segregation reasons). We got up to 34,000-ish capacity over the next couple of seasons when they started to add in seats in weird places and built a second Gene Kelly between the Kippax and Umbro/Platt Lane
I did think about the second Gene Kelly when I posted that figure but couldn’t recall if it was there then

Reading away was also an early KO IIRC due to England playing at Wembley.
