"random person" is a grammatically incorrect americanisation that has been picked up by the rest of the world.

Had a guy in the shop last week telling about his time as a copper in SA, then down the mines, then getting locked up in Middle east for brewing hooch.
One day they put a young lad in his cell who was adamant that he would be out in a day or two. When he found out my guy was from Manchester ha told him he'd get him out as well. Two days later they both get released and picked up in a limo. Turns out the young lads dad was very high up in the security force and used to live in manchester in his youth.
