What's with the reference to Hamburg!?!? For the Hamburg game, the South Standers were spread out all over the stadium. The exact opposite of what they're doing for Villareal.
The problem is they're putting ALL the singers in one end to generate atmosphere. It certainly generates atmosphere at that end, but if you put singers all over the stadium, with the hardcore at one end, that works best, as it generates atmosphere all over the place.
As someone pointed out, you need chants to cascade around a stadium from one starting point. That starting point can be anywhere. It should be everywhere.
Most people do want to sing, no matter what their age, they just want to sing a catchy song with words that they can learn in 10 seconds and don't want to sound stupid by singing on their own.
So the obvious answer, surely, is to have a singing block (or blocks) in every single stand. If you want to get up and start impromptu singing, sit there. If you don't, sit nearby so you can join in with the second line along with everyone else.
That's how it works at away games.

If the away fans are also placed on level 3 wouldn't the acoustics and style of stadium mean that the noise they generate would feel stronger than if they are on level 1? I'm not an expert on any of this, but it's something that needs looking at. We need a soundwave expert for that one.
I can definitely help with that. He's a Boro fan and usually enjoys day trips to Beijing, Prague and Sydney, but I'm sure he'd welcome the business and a short commute. I think the club have my contact details if they're reading this.
I'm another one for turning off the PA music by the way, it's pointless, and we've a long history of downbeat music to welcome the teams. As Gary points out the situation needs to be monitored closely on the day. No point drowning out the fans. I mean, who on earth goes to EA to listen to the PA music??
