Mehdi Benatia

Jagielka? He would get destroyed in our high line.

John Stones looked better than him when he came into the Everton side towards the end of the season and whilst Stones looks a good prospect, even he is miles away from our level.

I agree Benatia is overpriced, Mangala most certainly is, but the prices for highly rated central defenders is now in that 30-40m barrier and striker have moved up to the 60-70m barrier, that's the market.

Garay would be my fallback options but he is off to Bayern.

I thought Zenit were in for Garay.

I think they were from what I read then last week it came out from somewhere that Bayern agreed a deal.

I suppose with the World Cup going on the deal won't be finalised until after the tournament.

38m Euros 34/5m? Fuck that stupid money for a player who's had 1 decent season.

It's not my money but the Mangala and Benatia fees quoted are ridiculous. I'd sooner try to get Jagielka or similar out of a PL team using Richards, Rodwell and / or Milner ( if he wants away) as part of the deal. With the UEFA restriction on spending maybe spending big on a CB will need to wait until next summer - but if we are going to spend big let's at least get someone who is the real deal rather than spending big on the likes of Mangala without really knowing if he can perform at the highest level. If we feel we must invest in a foreign defender then Ezequiel Garay has to be the best option out there - I.e. Good player and sensible price.

Jagielka is a very good shout nmc.

Jagielka? Stones? no thankyou.

This.

Miles off our level.
I'd put Jagielka in the Lescott bracket, a good upgrade 4 years ago on what we had, but this World Cup will show he is not good enough against the top strikers, he will get found out (if he hasn't already been) I like the look of Stones but for the price Everton will quote for a player who has had less than half a season in the PL it's not worth the gamble
