Melbourne City FC Thread

Just signed Jack Hendry on loan from Celtic, probably till the end of the season.

Anyone who follows Celtic closely got any info on him, obviously his stats aren't good this season, but he has 3 international caps and at 24 being a CB he still has got improvement in him. Interested to hear others thoughts.

@Magicpole is your best bet for all things Celtic related

I hate to be the bearer of bad news and I would implore you adopt the stance, don't shoot the messenger, because Jack is not very good.

He was a disaster when Rogers bought him and played him in a couple of CL qualifiers and he sold the jerseys both games. Not the best start. He then got games and was a bomb scare. He is prone to lapses in concentration and can drive out of defence as if he's Beckenbaur, then realises he's Jack Hendry and loses possession, causing mayhem.

He can look good for spells and we all hoped he would push on, but he never did.

Now, you need to bear in mind his catastrophic start seriously did his confidence. Maybe he was trying too hard to rectify and it just went. A new start might be what he needs. I hope it is but I would be lying if I didn't say he was awful with us. But, Samaras was gash with City, but great for us.

Sammy was good mind. Jack? Not so much.

Anyway, could you let me know how the lad gets on? I hope he has learned and improves.

Thanks for the feedback. We have currently 2 youngish CBs that are serviceable but nothing special and an experienced visa player in Windbichler but he hasn't been able to get on the pitch and Hendry has come in as injury replacement for him on loan. We would never be in a position to sign a player like that normally unless we used a marquee spot for him and to sign a 24 year old fringe player would be negligent. So basically it's a free hit for us and maybe it might give Jack 15 to 20 games to prove he is decent player and facilitate a move in your summer.

One thing for certain he won't get much cash for his Jersey.

Just about to KO against Perth.

2nd vs 3rd massive 6 pointer, if we are serious we must win.

This type of game has traditionally resulted in limp defeat. I have a feeling this could be the start of a more resilient city.

Hopeful but not confident .

I'm not really familiar with the game in Australia, but I wouldn't imagine it wouldnt be as high as when we play qualifiers. I hope he does well. It's games he needs so hopefully he will get them if his form improves.

I would liken the A-League as somewhere between League One and the Championship in terms of quality. I think it's imbued with the Australian fixation of constant running, getting stuck in, showing passion rather than the focusing on quality.

Hendry reminds me of Stones a bit, both in terms of looks and style of play. Hopefully he does well, as Melb City have had some quality foreign centre halves in recent years with Schenkenveld and Jakobsen.

I felt the draw was a fair result both teams didn't create a lot but were on hand to shut each other down.

I liked the look of Susaeta - was constantly harrying and pressing. When he gets up to speed I hope he kicks on.
