By the way. If anyone is interested and wants to get a better idea of the club from the fans perspective I run (with the help of some good friends) a photoblog that has been following Heart since day dot. The address is

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.thehistoryofmelbourneheart.blogspot.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.thehistoryofmelbourneheart.blogspot.com</a>

And before anyone starts making jokes about "what history?" I have heard them all before,

So have we mate ;-)

You got a feeling at times that we are about 12 month senior to Melbourne Heart the way journos talk "history" :D

Let's get this straight from the off.

This is a barm (or barm cake) which is what we're talking about:

If I'm being totally honest our owners aren't perfect, since 2009 they still haven't addressed a major issue at the club - that is, the severe learning difficulties many of our fans have. They have done nothing to help educate these poor souls amongst us. It really is a sad sight seeing grown men refer to muffins with such a silly made up word such as "barm".

To see the extent of this problem I refer you to this thread (all 764 pages of it): http://forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=101815&hilit=muffin+or+barm

Let me the judge on this matter. I never had a special name for it except a cookie but I was stunned few days ago when I heard my wife and kids talking about eating muffins. I immediately recalled that huge thread in cellar that matters so much for you guys, lol

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

Sorry to take things off topic.. haha
But absolutely stoked with this news.. Been a Melbourne Heart supporter since the second home game where I immediately fell in love after beating Wellington and following it up with a derby win. Missed only a couple of home games since and spend a lot of times concerned with the matters of the club. Was initially attracted to them due to the underdog status, similar in the way City attracted me, all coming from my love of the underdog Western Bulldogs in Aussie Rules (1 premiership in 89 years).
We all know how City have went since being taken over and its hard for me not to be considered a glory hunter, especially considering my youth, but the real success did come after I took an interest in City, even if my join date appears otherwise :p
Anyways just want to say, like many others before me that although I love sky blue, I really would prefer we keep some part of our previous identity, so we dont become just a completely new club. All for the name change with the nickname Hearts, The Heart etc. but the home kit colours are one thing that needs to stay. Open to away and third kit changes though...
Just want to say welcome to anyone whos gonna take an interest in our little club, and hopefully we can experience the happiness you all have locally.

PS. for anyone watching the game today, do not expect much.. theres a reason we are dead last. Made a mate that moved from England whos a gooner and he struggles with the quality, but loves the passion. I hope you come to love it too.

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

Apparently, City wanted Sydney FC, their owner said City approached them few months ago.

It would be much easier if that one went along. Easier to just add City to Sydney FC name, and they're sky blue too so rebranding would be too easy.

Hard to imagine a club a member of City group playing in red, and then there's a city rival over there that are blue, not sky blue but blue, that makes job bit harder. That Melbourne Victory colors are main problem here, I think, Heart fans would be sad for some time but it's too young club for shirt color change to be a huge problem if it wasn't to Victory.

Thank you for pointing this out. There have been an overwhelming amount of posts on our forum regarding the positive input from our new owners, so its nice to hear about the negatives too. We have been told that the club are going to listen to the concerns we have regarding the change in ownership, so I will be sure to bring this up at the first fan forum they hold.

Considering I have only heard the word for the first time a few hours ago and it already has got me feverishly researching and conducting polls, I can only imagine how difficult this matter has been for those who have had to live with such uncertainty for many many years.

By the way, is a butty the same thing as a barm?
