Memorial for Lee Rigby

It really annoys me stuff like this and as with the charlie hebdo nonsense a few months back, the underlying theme to all of this is us vs. them. Ie) white people v them 'brown Muslim extremists.'

It is utterly ridiculous. This was one murder carried out by two mentally ill, not 'Islamic extremist' people, and that is all that happened. The man was and is not a 'British hero'. The word hero never really meant much anyway but in this post Iraq war era, this holly willoughby- carol wordermam itv army hero bollocks era, the word means even less.

I genuinely feel that lee rigby has been used as some sort of clean Union Jack by the masses that would like to think that racism is wrong but really, deep down, love this kind of stuff and would like a martyr to share on Facebook, to retweet on twitter and to generally have a way to air their view that Muslim people are dirty terrorists and unfortunately this form of social media gives them an acceptable platform to do so.

It's all bullshit.

'This form of social media' allowed me to be aware or informed of such a basic request, so i'dd like to genuinely thank it for bringing it to my attention thus why I signed petition and chose to share via 'social media'!
 
We demand that a memorial is erected to honour "Drummer" Lee Rigby and as a place where people can come to pay their respect.

If only there was already some form of a monument where people could pay their respects to him. Like, maybe in a place where his remains can be put and maybe some form of memorial stone could be placed with them, that is open to the public pretty much whenever they want to go.

Crazy that nobody has thought of this idea really

Mentally ill!!! I think you may well be for saying that, anyone who wears the uniform deserves respect, and to be murdered for it then by definition is a hero in my eyes, just because he didn't kill 20 insurgents single handedly doesn't make him any less of one. He was murdered in cold blood on our streets, the very fact even allowed to type this is because millions of his ilk have died for it. Those "mentally ill" types would stone you to death for even mentioning it.
 
No British war has ever been fought over freedom of speech and nobody died in the name of it. I don't know why people say this so often.

We fought a war over occupations and political strife, mind.

There's over 100,000 war memorials in the UK. Is this one more going to be a significant reminder that the other 100,000 has somehow failed to do?
 
Yes his murder was horrific but he just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Should we build memorials to soldiers killed by drunk or dangerous drivers? Or those that kill themselves when unable to cope with post-traumatic stress? That latter category are surely far more worthy of our attention.

Would it not be wise to either sign it if you agree or not bother if you don't and leave it at that, do we really think it is wise to get into a debate on it, it is obvious it will turn out badly, the fact two mods have jumped in seems bizarre to me, a bit of bleeding common sense for once

The only reason that they wouldn't erect a memorial is because it would offend the minority in our society.... fuck 'em
