Meniscus tear

What grade is the tear pal? I've known lads back on a treadmill inside 12 weeks, I've known lads who've never kicked a ball again. I'd rather break my ankle than fuck my knee up, and I've done both!
Hi mate. Not sure just yet. I have an appointment on Tuesday with the knee specialist. Sorry probably should have considered that before making a thread.

The initial doctor did say my days of doing certain training is probably over.

With anything joint and limb related it's the aftercare that you should focus on. Up and moving as soon as possible after OP, mind over matter. If you can afford it, get a decent sports physio if not take all the sessions you can get on the NHS, don't miss one. Eat well, don't drink, don't smoke and stay positive.

I imagine you won't be squatting 200kg anymore though ;-)

Cheers mate. It's a been a bit of a whirlwind. My missus pays more attention than me and she says it's a grade two.

I did it working abroad ( I'm military) so as you say about aftercare, I'll be well squared away in that regard.

I'm 50 and my knees have become steadily worse the last few years, and yeah, it was squatting that finally fucked it. Strangely I wasn't aware at the time, it was 24 hours later when the swelling and pain set in and the leg locked in the straight position. The medic out there with us immediately arranged for me to be sent for an MRI.

I did my left knee in. I had a scan and the fellah told me I had a torn meniscus muscle.
Several weeks later I saw the surgeon as preparation. He stated talking about how my right knee would soon be back to normal after the op.
Hmmmmmm.
Several days later I had a phone call from the hospital asking what aides I'd need, wheelchair, crutches ? Did I have a downstairs toilet..... I stopped her and asked why I would need all that. She told me a knee replacement was a very serious operation.
When I kicked off via my GP I was told my file had been put in the wrong tray.
When I went in the nurse asked what I was there for. I refused to tell her and asked what she thought I was in for.
Anyway, it got done and 4 weeks later I was fine.
The nhs did nothing wrong imo , they ask you what you are in for so there are no mistakes

Had my meniscus done on both knees and both times it took about 6-7 weeks recovery.
Got arthritis in both knees as a result of the ops, which the doctor told me would happen but I thought it'd be later down the line and not before I was 50.

Ive got meniscus tears in both knees. Cortisone jabs settled it and Ive kept the thigh muscles strong and its manageable now. I strap them both up in tight neoprene sleeves for any running and sport and Im fine so long as they are on.

I did go for an op on one of them. The surgeon had been great and described it as a minor scrape and polish type thing under an epidural. On the actual day of the op he came into the waiting room when he told his people what each of us needed and how long each procedure would take. He pointed to me and I heard him say that its all knackered and he is just taking it all out. Not the little repair job he told me about. I got up, thanked him for seeing me, and left.

I manage them carefully and ice them to fuck. Wasnt worth the risk to me, but everyone is different and I suppose it comes down to how much it affects you and restricts you

I wish you'd posted this when it actually happened
I need a new knee and the NHS is throwing up every possible hurdle not to perform the operation
I would have gone in under your name
They would have still done the wrong one. It's a bit disconcerting that they drew a huge arrow on my left thigh pointing at my knee. Apparently they do that to every patient

Nothing wrong !
The surgeon thought it was my right knee and someone put me down for a full knee replacement.
OK maybe they do ask all patients why they are there but I wanted to make sure I came out with both arms.

I am living with a meniscus tear in my right knee ...... its uncomfortable but the consultant that i spoke to in lockdown reckoned that, as i'm in my late 60s, and have got arthritis in my lower legs, i could actually end up being worse off if I had had surgery on my knee, so i left it.
