No children died in the crash far as I'm aware. The issue for me is paying these players enough to buy a fucking AMG merc before they've even made the first team. You can't deal with that type of money at 17/18, especially not when you are trying to play a professional sport. I know I'd be in a fucking right state after a month of 5 grand a week.

You could do the same damage in a 100 pound wreck, inappropriate speed kills

True, but if you're not earning mega-bucks, and having to watch what you spend, you're far more likely to be careful whilst driving your hard earned fiesta 1.2 which costs you 6 months wages to insure, than if you can buy a brand new merc and insure it with one week's wages.

Most of the worst drivers out there are those in cheap old wrecks, as there is no doubt a common link between the ability to only be able to afford an old car and intelligence level; and driving needs intelligence.

I remember watching some CCTV of someone in an old battered Micra pulling out onto a main road despite traffic clearly visible on the main road...ended terribly for those in the Micra....

I see what you did there.

I notice in the MUEN that Paul McCrath was involved in a bit of bother and was arrested. It states in thick black lettering and underlined that he is an Ex-united player.Mappen Walters is an ex-City player in normal print. So No bias there then.

Current prison league player doesn't have quite the same news worthiness!! CMW should have stuck to a mountain bike

does this mean they sometimes keep folks in jail longer than they are supposed to?

Back in the states I once got held 9 days for a 7 day sentence due to a "glitch" The only way I got out was the judge vacated his judgement otherwise I would have been held until the next available court date . Obviously not a huge deal compared to like people who have been put to death and were innocent but it was real annoying.

Still think his penalty was harsh and getting out and going back in is probably worse. I'm sure everyone here has sped as much as him and I wouldn't advocate them getting charged with attempted murder or something since it could kill.

This happened 10years ago my pal was pulling out of a junction onto the a6 in Stockport the rd next to Mercedes when he was t boned by a car that was speeding he ended up pretty mashed broken ribs and leg down one side and had to be cut out. The car came from over a humpback bridge. According to the police and his insurance it was his fault. I'm not making excuses for cmw but what's the difference apart from my pal didn't die.

That is the default insurance position, that if you pull out from a side road into a main road then you will almost always be liable for any collision that occurs as a result. That doesn't necessarily mean you've been reckless or careless but that it is your responsibility to make sure it's safe to do so.

The tragic consequences of this particular accident, plus the fact CMW was breaking the law, don't really change that. These are just additional factors that change the legal situation. If no one had been killed or injured and CMW hadn't been going at an excessive speed then the Micra driver would have been the one held liable by the insurance company.

it was his dads car..they reported..

meppen walters is an example of players getting to much too soon , some people say it was his dads car , but how much would it cost a teenager as an additional driver on the policy to insure a powerful mercedes around £20k at a guess.
Young players wages should be paid into a trust fund until they are 21 years old , and paid a basic rate until they can appreciate the consequences of their actions , just a thought.

He was on £1,000-per-week at the age of 17/18, so £52,000-per-year. Pretty crazy really. You can imagine some of the high profile foreign kids like Suarez may make even more.
