So what exactly has Paul Merson got against City?
The former Arsenal midfielder rarely gives the Blues any credit in his role as a Sky Sports pundit and he continues the theme in his column in the Daily Star this morning.
Typical of the snipes Merson has on a weekly basis on TV, he is at least consistent in his latest Star feature ‘Sergio Aguero not that hot’.
Beginning with the line, “I said Sergio Aguero was no Carlos Tevez, and I stand by that.” This based on less than half a game and the opposition being Swansea City! But there’s more Merson views on City…
Merson continues: “I watch Roberto Mancini and he looks like he can upset players, and they can upset him. However well they do, there will be rumbles coming out of that club. And Mancini is too cautious. He reminds me of George Graham. They would both rather win 1-0 than 5-2.
“There’s nothing wrong with that, but when United go away from home they try to win every time. City went away last season and played as though they were trying not to lose.”
We’ll have to presume Merson didn’t see last season’s Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium then when the Reds were anything but adventurous! Whatever his gripe, the Blues have clearly upset the ex-Gunner at some point and no doubt Sergio will prove him wrong in the coming months - and we'll stand by that, Merse.
