Messi wins Ballon D’or

It kinda feels like the Balon Dor ‘brand’ has been built in modern times on the Messi/Ronaldo race and people fee obliged to give it to one of them every year.

Before they combined with the FIFA world
player of the year award in 2010 it had less kudos as there were other awards by FIFA.

Anyone who’s watched Messi for the past 6 months cant seriously suggest he’s the best player in the world this year.

Mo Salah should feel seriously aggrieved at not being in the top 5 ever for starters. He’d be my first choice right now if we were playing picks in the playground…
On your same logic Salah was incredibly average from January to May last year was he not? His club won nothing, international team also. International honours or a CL win sway it a bit I think. Salah has been great this season whilst having a drop off in recent weeks. Don’t know who I’d claim is the best player from January up until now.

If the CL and Euros finals had gone the opposite way, do we reckon Stones and Walker would have got into the top 5? Lol

It is 180 'writers' (journalists ?) around the world that vote oh and the French company that set it up.

Not really a wide-ranging view just a group of paid piss heads

Couldn't care less - the only people excited by such awards are genkerally duvet dwellers, console w*nkers, Dorito munchers, living with their parents.

yeah, its meaningless, messi has been the goat for a while and by miles anyway. why theres so many dudes going to bat for english and gean rags players who didnt do shit this year i dont understand though

On the topic of Balon d'Or, who do we see consistently contesting the prize for the next generation?

My contrarian take - I don't think Mbappe will.

The English prem is comfortably the most competitive, pressurised and demanding league, possibly in World football, so impressive stats (on the surface) from one horse town, easy leagues cannot be relied upon as a reflection of achievement and endeavor. To win or do well in the premiership and then to go on and do well in cups, European competition as well as international football is more deserving than being able to conserve energy and boost your stats in an easy league.
Not saying Messi isn't, as you put it, "goat", but not really deserving of the Ballon D'or accolade THIS TIME!
